Montoyo & Abanco battles for lead in Round 4

Former champion Ted Ian Montoyo and PO1 Ernie Abanco will separate ways as they battle for the lead in Round 4 today, as 48 others participants will try to catch up with them in the 7-Round Swiss System of the ongoing 12th Negrense Professional (Degree Holder) Individual Chess tournament at Top’s Millennium Plaza Bowling Lanes Drive-in Restaurant along 10th Street, Capitol Shopping Center Bacolod City.

The games started January 15 and will ends on January 29, 2012. Montoyo and Abanco, both enjoys 3 straight points will play on Board 1 to dispute the lead.

National Master Alan Severino (2.5) who beat Herbert Ciocon, Jr., in 35 moves of English in Round 2 and settled a draw with James Carmelo Uy in 52 moves of Larsen in Round 3 will face Joseph Navarra (2.5) in Round 4 on Board 2.

Marvin Ting (2.5) faces Dexter Belaño, Sr. (2.5), on Board 3 after both won their matches separately and draw another. Uy will face Eduardo Junio on Board 4 as Danny Maersk Mangao (2.5) will face Aguedo Docase (2.0) on Board 5.

Eden Agape Tumbos (2) and Fernando Calambro, Jr., (2) on Board 6; PO2 Nimrod Mendoza vs. Herbert Ciocon, Jr., on Board 7; Lonchivar San Jose vs. Prof. Manny Ramos on Board 8; Alan Alibuga vs. Dr. Alan Tenerife on Board 9; and Romel Comares vs. Jireh Sy on Board 10.

Other pairings are; CM Nunilon Fulo III (1.5) vs. Ronnie Villa (2) on Board 11; Dominador Bergaño vs. Denver Destacamanto on Board 12; Jomar Funo-an vs. Alexis Manuel Gancho-on on Board 13; SJO2 Joseph Villafranca vs. Eugene Manlapao on Board 14; Gary Baltar vs. Gomer Vivero on Board 15; and Joel Jallana vs. Ferdie Estales on Board 16.

For players with one point each are; JO2 Renato Biado vs. Sgt. Valeriano Mangubat on Board 17; Alan Año vs. Marlo Martinez on Board 18; Radjie Caram vs. Ely Neil Mojarez on Board 19; Paul San Jose vs. Stephen Garong on Board 20; Joaquin Hizon vs. Rodney Sultan on Board 21; Rengent Arevalo vs. Antonio Magsico on Board 22; Gary Galarpe (0.5) vs. Engr. Round 5 will be played the next day, Sunday, January 22, 2012 with two participants were officially deleted from the list for defaulting twice.

The tournament is an annual project organized and officiated by the Game Royale Aficionados of Negros, Inc. (GRANI) headed by Dr. Alfonso Teorima in cooperation with Top’s Millennium Plaza Bowling Lanes, Inc. The champion will get P3, 000.00 and “King” trophy (42-inch, 4-legged) donated by Roy S. Villa, President & CEO Buglas Bio-fuels Plantation ,Inc.; 1st Runner-Up will get P2,000.00 + “Queen” trophy (36-inch, 4-legged) donated by Sungem Pharma; 2nd Runner-Up to receive P1,500.00 + “Rook” trophy (30-inch, 4-legged) donated by Mr. Lester L. Felisilda, OFW, Abu Dhabi; 3rd Runner-Up with P1,200.00 + “Bishop” trophy (27-inch, 4-legged) donated by Mr. Lloyd L. Felisilda, OFW, Dubai and 4th Runner-Up to receive P 1,000.00 + “Knight” trophy (24-inch, 4-legged) donated by Ms. Ma. Katrina J. Opao, OFW, Dubai.

The sixth to fifteen placers will received Urika chess set with mat and bag each donated by Nunilon Fulo III of PNB, Laurence Felisilda of First Farmers Holdings Corp., Lemuel Felisilda of All Asian Countertrade, Inc., Lance D. Felisilda, Engr. Joselito G. Lumanang of USLS, Archt. Alfonso Barrios, Rey P. Fuentes, Ms. Leanne Gabrielle C. Felisilda, Atty. Leopoldo F. Cioco, Jr. and Dr. Jose Alabado.

Tournament director and chief arbiter is Dodz Felisilda with Abby J. Giganto, Jr., Gilbert D. Villanueva, Efren B. Mondejar as arbiters and Lemuel Felisilda as recorder/encoder.*
