Sports: 2nd Barangay Bata Chessfest Set Feb.11-12

The 2nd Barangay Bata Chess tournament will be held on February 11 to 12, 2012 in two categories at the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Gym in the barangay.

Philip E. Caudilla, President of Barangay Bata Chess Club who act tournament director said the tournament will be contested in open non-master and Kiddies 12-Under categories.

The tournament offered cash prizes of P3, 000 and trophy for the champion in open category; P2, 000 and trophy for 1st runner-up and P1, 000 and trophy for 2nd runner-up.

For Kiddies 12-Under, the champion will receive P2, 000 and trophy; P1, 500 and trophy for 1st runner-up and P1, 000 and trophy for 2nd runner-up.Those who landed from 4th place to 10th place in two categories will be exempted in the registration in next year or the succeeding 3rd edition of the tournament.

Opening ceremonies will start at 8:30AM on February 11 with Round 1 to start at 9:30AM; 2nd Round at 1PM and Round 3 at 3:30PM.

Rond 4 will be at 8:00AM on February 12; Round 5 at 10:30AM; Round 6 at 1PM and Round 7 at 3:30PM. Awarding and closing ceremonies will start at 6:00PM.

Registration fee is pegged at P200 for open category and P100 for Kiddies 12-Under, Caudilla added.

The tournament is a 7-Swiss System , with the rate of play is one hour each player to finish the game.

Each player is required to bring his own chess set and chess clock and defaulting time is 30 minutes before the start of every round. The breaks will be determined in cummulative, win over the other (woto) and seeding number.

The FIDE Laws of Chess will be applied in the tournament. Ray Hofileña will act as chief arbiter.

This tournament is sponsored by Bata Barangay Council under Barangay Captain Restituto Abaring and under supervision of Barangay Kagawad Roderick S. Gregas, Project Chairman and Barangay Chairman, Committee on Sports.

Last year tournament was won by Mario Flores of the barangay when qualification of participants are those who are residents of the barangay.*
