Local News: Burning of Trees in Murcia Reaches 1M in Damage
Police officers of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) immersion team, Murcia PNP, Bureau of Fire and Provincial Environmental Management Office (PEMO) are pursuing an ongoing investigation to determine the motive of the fire that burned down different species of trees in a 50 hectare land in Brgy. Minoyan, recently.
NOPPO reports revealed that the fire happened at Sitio Balasyan, Brgy. Minoyan wherein fifty percent of the 10,000 seedlings were endemic and the rest are exotic trees were burned to the ground.
Initial investigation said that the remaining trees on the site only have 30% survival rate while damage reached 1 million pesos.
The fire on the 45-hectare land of the Murcia Forest Reserve started about 8AM last February 2, 2012 and was declared fire out at 4:30PM the same day.
The ocular investigation was also assisted by PSInsp. Norberto Barniso, Murcia PNP-OIC, BFP Personnel and PEMO’s Edgar Alcantara.
