Local News: Flood Hits 1,136 Families in Talisay
A total of 1,136 families from 12 barangays in Talisay City were affected by flashflood that hit the city Wednesday, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) reported yesterday.
These families came from barangays Zones 14, 14B, 11, 10, 4A, 8, 4, 12, 16, 2, 7 and 3, it added.
These barangays are near the Minulu-an River which overflowed due to continuous heavy rains, reports said.
Twenty-four families had evacuated to Rafael B. Lacson Elementary School, Tayabas Elementary School, and Talisay South Elementary School, while two houses in Zone 14 were totally damaged, the PSWDO added.
The provincial government, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development have given the evacuees 150 packs of food, PSWD Officer Liane Garcia said.
Mayor Eric Saratan had also distributed relief goods, media reports said.
The evacuees have already returned to their respective homes yesterday after the waters subsided, Garcia added.*
