Local News: EDC Gives P1-M Food Assistance to Quake Victims
Geothermal company Energy Development Corporation (EDC) has distributed P1-million worth of relief goods to the quake victims in Negros Oriental.
EDC gave food assistance to residents of Guihulngan, Tayasan and Jimalalud, the company said in a press statement.
Dwight Maxino, vice president for EDC southern and northern Negros Geothermal Production Fields, said their employees have volunteered to pack the relief goods on Feb. 7, or a day after the quake struck and they were able to distribute the food on Feb. 8.
The relief goods included rice, canned goods, bottled water, blankets and flashlights, he said.
Maxino said EDC distributed another batch of relief goods on February 10 and they will continue to do this until next week.
The packing and distribution were in coordination with ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya, he said.
Their company could have packed it in their southern Negros office in Valencia, Negros Oriental but roads leading to the three towns were impassable so they opted to get help from their Northern Negros office in Bago City, Maxino said.*
