Sports: CPU Coed Rules Regatta Beach Volley Tourney
The 2011 Southeast Asian Games RP women’s beach volleyball campaigner in Indonesia led Central Philippine University (CPU) team to capture this year’s 9th National Women Beach Volleyball Tournament at Villa Regatta Resort in Iloilo City during the weekend.
RP team campaigner Jovelyn Gonzaga teamed up with Viola Ceballos defeated University of St. La Salle team A of former RP youth team member Patty Orendain and Beauty Denila, 21-19, 21-19 to bag the title and top cash prize and trophy.
Gonzaga and Ceballos won the top cash prize of Php10, 000 and trophy, while Orendain and Denila went home with Php7, 000 and trophy.
University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos tandem of Jennifer Cosas and Ruby Casiple beat the tandem of University of St. La Salle team B of Charmaine Moralde and Regine Abano to settle for 2nd runner-up honor. They took the Php5, 000 and trophy while Moralde and Abano got the Php3, 000 and trophy for placing 3rd runner-up.
The 2012 Bayawan City Women’s Beach Volleyball Invitational tournament champion, Faye Sai and Zihui Zenn placed 5th overall and won the cash prize of 2, 000. They were beaten by USLS A in the crossover semifinals.
Seven teams participated in the tournament as part of 40th Paraw Regatta Festival in Iloilo City last February 17 to 18, 2012. Other teams are Lightworks-Manila, Iloilo Doctor’s College (IDC), University of San Agustin (USA)-Iloilo, and De La Salle University-Dasmariñas.* (CMGarde)
