Local News: ‘Kanlaon Volcano has long, wide crack near the crater due to Feb. 6 quake‘
An aerial survey of Kanlaon Volcano and its vicinity yesterday discovered a “very long, wide crack” near the volcano’s crater.
The aerial observation using a helicopter also showed signs of “landslide spots and areas prone to more landslides.”
The team, composed of authorities from the environment and natural resources agencies, provincial government offices and the military, told newsmen yesterday that they failed to see the entire areas due to the dense forest.
The team said ground surveys are necessary to determine the real status of the crack and the landslide areas, after which the provincial government will be briefed whether to continue banning Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park and volcano climbing activities or open them to the public again.* (APT)
