Geared to further bolster the softball event in the City of Silay and promote camaraderie among its neighboring cities, the First Silay Softball Invitational is set to unfold on March 18, 2012 at the Hda. Lonoy Ballpark in Silay City.

The Mayor Oti Montelibano Softball Trophy is at stake in this event, which will be played every Sunday and will feature the top softball players in the province playing in six different teams.

These teams are the Ramon Locsin and Judith Gallego’s Silay City Softball team; Elmer Cuarte’s Talisay City Softball Team, Manapla Team of Jesse Gaston, Fuentes Lines of Guy Fuentes of Bacolod City, and the host-teams Lonoy Diamonds and Lonoy Bees.

Softball enthusiasts will once again get a chance to watch Negros’ top pitchers suiting up for the various teams.

Manapla Team will banner siblings Hernando “Kulafu” and Freddie Posadas, Jose Montaño and Isagani Santillan while Silay’s team will have Dennis Frayco Sr. and Mario Pagunsan; Nilo Abellana for Talisay team; Cerlito Erabon and Chat Ditchon for Fuentes Lines; Roland Espenido, Leonardo Palomo and Joseph Sellado for Lonoy Diamonds; and Eugencio elenelon, Arnold Gamboa, Wowie Villanueva and Bon Espenido for Lonoy Bees.

A single round robin format will be used to lead up to the Page System in the championship round. Except, for the 3 matches scheduled on the opening day, all other dates will have a scheduled 4 games starting at 8:30 am.

Taking charge of the tournament are accredited umpires led by Rodito Badian, Reynaldo Ofamin and Steve Dimapanag.

According to the event organizer, this tournament will encourage the participants to further improve their skills and competence.

Meanwhile, to reach the Hda. Lonoy Ballpark is to take a trip from Bacolod City towards the north, passing by the Silay-Saravia boundary which is KM 19. About 100 meters ahead is a hacienda road, just across a waiting shed. Next, turn right and about another 100 meters, you will reach a split at the road. Then, turn right and follow the road for about another kilometer to reach the Ballpark.* (JGToga/SCOOP-Bacolod)
