Sports: 2nd Carl Lopez 7 A-side Football Festival Slated
After the successful staging of 1st Councilor Carl Lopez 7 A-side Football Festival last January 28, 2012, the 2nd part is on line to be staged May 26-27, 2012 at the Bacolod City National High School football field.
Emilio Goto, the tournament director disclosed recently that before the second staging of football tournament, a Summer Football Clinic will be held probably on March 21 in either at University of St. La Salle or Bacolod City National High School pitch.
Bacolod City Councilor Carl Valderama Lopez will organize the event with Ceres Football Club to conduct the clinic, Goto added.
Four categories will be played during the 2nd Carl Lopez Football Festival. They are the men’s open, boys’ Under-18, girls’ Under-18 girls’ Under-14 and elementary boys’ Under-12.
The 1st staging, Andres Bonifacio Elementary School won two titles in the boys’ under -18 and boys’ Under-12.
ABES beat Handumanan, 1-0 in the Under-18, while its boys’ Under 12 ABES A squad tamed Wild Fox A, 2-1.
In men’s open category, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos prevailed over Jackals A, 2-1, in the final match to win the title and the P3,000 cash prize. The Jackals received P2,000, while second runner-up Bacolod FC was given P1,000. Councilor Carl Lopez awarded the cash prizes to the winners at his office at the New Government Center.
ABES’ Jaymer Ciocon was named tournament Most Valuable Player, while his teammate Bell Bark Ortega received the best goalkeeper award in the boys’ Under-18 category.
In the boys’ Under-12 category Adams Servanes was adjudged MVP, while and Sandy Remolado as best goalkeeper.
Recoletos’ booter Michael Coral was MVP in the men’s open event, while his teammate Jay Longno was adjudged as best goal keeper.
In the girls’ Under 14, Rizal Elementary school got away with a 1-0 win over St. Scholastica’s Academy, with keeper Marikel Baleda bagging two individual awards – MVP and best goalie.
Rising Star Football Club was the recipient of the “Fair Play Award”, while Coach Ulyses Rillo was named best coach of the tournament.
The competition drew participation from 50 teams from different football clubs in Negros Occidental.*
