Sports: Sta. Fe Captures 12th TKP Class B Cage Crown

Sta. Fe Resort defeated Buddy Johann Kendrick Tan, 78-71 to claim the 12th Tan KeK Pin Memorial Basketball Cup Class B title at Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thursday night.

On Wednesday, Buddy JKT beat Sta. Fe to arrange a winner-take-all match Thursday.

Sta. Fe absorbed their only loss in the entire tournament, give no chance against the Buddy JKT to open up a 21-2 run in the opening quarter to post a 23-7 lead. Then kept Buddy at bay with Ren Ren Lacson hitting 12 points and Edward Uy added 7 for a 43-26 half time break.

JKT employed a comeback with Mark Coo hitting 9 points in the third to cut the deficit to 59-50.

Lacson top scored for Sta. Fe with 17 points, Chiu and Bol Manaloto added 12 each, Quingco shot 11, Uy with 7 and Arvin Chua had 6.

Badong Eufre paced JKT with 15 points, Javelosa scored 11, Binguan and Coo had 9 apiece and Charlton Ong contributed 8.

With the win, Sta. Fe foiled the three-peat attempt of JKT that ruled the previous tournaments. * (CMG)
