Sports: Vasquez Bested Competitors in Phl Autocross Series
After winning three categories in the just-concluded 1st Leg of the 2012 Philippine Autocross Championship Series–Carl Lopez Cup, Mark Vasquez bested other competitors held last March 25 at the Bacolod City Government Center.

Sponsored by Phoenix Accelerate Vega–Fully Synthetic Oil and Federal Tyres, Vasquez was able to finish the race with 1.08.14 minutes in Novice Modified B, while 1.08.09 minutes in the Novice Modified C. He likewise, clocked 1.07.86 minutes for the Open B.
In the 2010 Philippine Autocross Championship Series held at the Bacolod Airport, Vazquez also won the All Modified Bacolod category and finished third in the Novice Modified B.
Meanwhile, another top performer during the race was Miguel Arimas who topped the Novice Modified A and Experience Modified.
Arimas registered the fastest clock at 1.11.04 minutes in the Novice Modified A while 1.10.36 minutes for the Experience Modified.
For the Novice Stock A, Victor Lamata got the best time of 1.17.72 minutes while Francis Lamata ruled the Novice Stock B after clocking 1.18.03 minutes.
In the Volkswagen Class, William Jordan "Billy" Cooper clocked 1.11.26 to prevail in the category.
According to Abegael Cabusora, 2012 Philippine Autocross Championship Series Marketing Officer, this event has been running the tracks for 10 years and becomes more competitive and exciting every year.
Local coordinator Arthur ‘Shane’ Cooper, who is likewise a racer himself, stressed that aside from promoting motorsports, the main goal of this event is to bring the race on the controlled area. "This is to educate people about road safety," he said.
Around 20 drivers from all over the region came over to Bacolod for the said competition.
The second Leg of this race will be on April 6 in Pizon Road in Iloilo City while the race will be back in Bacolod in September for its 5th Leg.*
