Local News: Bacolod Bet Crowned Lin-ay Sang Negros Sagay’s Recelle Nuyad Wins First Runner up

For the second year in a row, the candidate of Bacolod won the Lin-ay sang Negros 2013 crown at the 20th Panaad sa Negros Festival, besting 19 other beautiful ladies in a six-hour pageant at the Panaad Stadium Friday night.

Samyah Al-Dossary, 18, a resident of Brgy. Mansilingan, won the much-coveted crown, a sash, a trophy, P60,000 in cash, and a 100-percent one-year college scholarship.

Al-Dossary is an Inter-Disciplinary student of the University of Saint La Salle (USLS) in Bacolod. She also won two corporate awards - Ms. Cignal and Ms. Bacolod Baywalk.

The pageant started at 8:30 p.m. and ended at 2:30 a.m. because of the rain.

First runner-up was Lin-ay sang Sagay Recelle Nuyad, who won P40,000 in cash and a 75-percent one-year college scholarship. Nuyad, a Commerce student of USLS, also won Best in Flora and Fauna Costume.

Second runner-up was Lin-ay sang Silay Riah Angela De Ocampo, who won P20,000 in cash and a 50-percent one-year college scholarship.

De Ocampo, a tourism student of La Consolacion College, was an early crowd favorite, as she won two of the major awards - Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown. She also won four corporate awards - Miss Globe, Miss Lin-ay sang Organik na Negros, Miss GMA Kapuso, and Miss Olive-C.

Crowning Al-Dossary were Board Member Melvin Ibañez (representing Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.), Mr. World 2012 first runner-up and Lin-ay judge Andrew Wolff, and Lin-ay sang Negros first runner-up Jemaimah Taladico.

Lin-ay sang Negros 2012 Alyssa Marie Villarico, who is representing Bacolod, was not available during the pageant night, as she was competing for the Ms. Earth 2013 pageant.

Other Top 5 Finalists were Lin-ay sang Victorias Yzabelle Montinola and Lin-ay sang Talisay Reina Jamaica Jimenea,

Completing the Top 10 Semi-Finalists were Hinigaran’s Elven Barbara Jean Neri, La Castellana’s Sunshine Arsua Tison, San Carlos’ Ester Grace Bation, Murcia’s Giselle Joy Sison, and Escalante’s Dyannara Princess Jill Cataluña.

Lin-ay sang La Carlota was also an early crowd favorite as she won six corporate awards: Ms. Coca Cola Bottlers Philippines, Ms. ASN People’s Choice award, Ms. RKJ Manpower Services, Ms. Petron, Ms. Energy (Baraku Bull), and Ms. Watchmen Daily Journal Reader’s Choice.

In the early part of the competition, Lin-ay sang La Carlota was also chosen Muse of the Media, and Lin-ay nga Maabilidadan.

Other corporate award winners were: Ms. Panasiatic - E.B. Magalona; Ms. Nature’s Spring Water - Talisay, Ms. SunStar Bacolod Reader’s Choice - Escalante, and Ms. Congenial - E.B. Magalona, and Ms. Photogenic (Robinsons)- Hinigaran.

Judging the pageant were former Lin-ay sang Negros title holders Karlyn Mae Bautista, Rizza Liz Catigan and Jan Nicole Puentebella-Uy, Dumaguete Tourism Officer Woodrow Maquiling, commercial and ramp model Laurens Tolenaars and Wolff.

Negrense actor John Arceo hosted the competition with television and movie actress Chynna Ortaleza, while GMA-7 actor Aljur Abrenica entertained the crowd.*
