Sports: ASSFBI Bags Title in Sharp Friendship Cup Open Trio Bowlfest
Active Solid Strikers Fellowship Bowlers Inc. bagged the crowns in three division contested of the Sharp organized Suppliers Friendship Cup Open Trio Bowling Tournament at the New Top’s Millennium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City.
Silverado ASSFBI Team of Cecil Silverio composed of Norman Pineda, Ronald Fernandez and Nonoy Gatila crushed top seed and twice-to-beat Sharp Team of Irne Diaz in two matches, 348-311 and 365-349 to grab the top prize in the premiere rated division.
The class A champion earned a crack to the championship versus Sharp by a victory over ESD Electronz and Davies "A" in their first two games in the up-the-ladder system, and followed it up with a win against Kami Mga Hubin of Robbie Elegado in the semis, 375-346.
In the non-rated department, ASSFBI Alimon Steel/Candles represented by Melot Alimon, Rey Bello, Frantit Miranda and Alan Tresreyes bulldozed the rampaiging Davies "C" led by Romel Jover in the finals, 330-259 for the title.
Davies ripped the twice-to-beat Candles in their first game encounter, 329-309 for the deciding match.
In their quarterfinal and semifinal matches, Davies routed ESD Electronz of Pat Mendoza, 348-291 and Metro Sales of Rey Oreta, 307-296.
For their part, ESD trounced St. Joseph Alumni Association in their up-the-ladder outing, 332-320.
It was ASSFBI Condura Ladies who ruled in the women’s bracket beating Tiger Eye I in the championship, 363-308 for the crown.
Carrying the colors for the champion squad were master bowler Juliet Regollo, Sylvia Del Rosario, Arlene Memoria and Lea Javier, while Cecil Biendo, Jumelin De la Cruz and Carmen Romales played for the losing Tiger.
TE I claimed the right to challenge the No.1 squad by defeating sister team Tiger Eye II in the semis, 331-312.
Kami Mga Gwapa and Panasonic settled for third and fourth runners-up, respectively.
NPBC RJ Stars of Steve Po was the winner in the rated consolation contest winning over Davies "B", 358-353, while St. Joseph Alumni 2 and Retro of Leah Uy ruled in the men non-rated and women’s bracket.
In the battle of the top 10 bowlers, Janggo Jarina of Kami Mga Hubin won the master’s title in the rated division, while Lawrence Llena of ASSFBI Electronz captured the crown in the non-rated category, and Condura top bet Juliet Regollo reigned supreme in the women’s bracket.
The tournament’s record holders in the individual competition were Munching Guison (Davies B) in the men’s highest pinning and single with 96 and 168, as his teammate Felipe Boy Romero Jr. in double with 286.
Davies Fusion starter Tess Robles registered the women’s highest pinning with 94, Lars del Castillo (Panasonic-ON BACIBA) in single with 158 and Lea Javier (ASSFBI) in triple with 388.
TNT Construction and Davies A established the team’s highest single and double with 432 and 791 apiece, while Panasonic and Condura in the women’s single and triple with 410 and 1,033, respectively.
Meanwhile, the curtain raiser of the Sharp Friendship Cup will be on May 11 at the same venue.*
