Considering the social standing of the Lacson family name, I was quiet disappointed with the 2nd Lacson Reunion. It didn’t bear the “Grand” adjective

it had for the 1st Lacson Grand Reunion. There was nothing to celebrate about…

ELG with the famous Rose Lacson

What should have been a clarion call to get together and tie the family bonds led to disarray and disunity. Each branch tried to outdo the others, there was no sense of grandeur that has made the Lacson name stand out from the rest—even being called the Kennedys of the Philippines sounded terribly out of place. The only thing that came to my mind was the bickering of petty complaints why this branch was called royale and why that branch was designated as pure blood. Hello! Must you take all that crap seriously?!!!

First of all, the venue was too small for 600 people. Secondly, the aircon didn’t work because the huge audio system had to be placed outside so the sliding glass doors could not close. Third, by the time the midday games and get to know you portion came, everyone went home because they were dying of heat stroke. Fourth, after the variety show which wasn’t that bad because of the dance numbers, there was a time to socialize and get to know each other. Unfortunately, that’s when the band started at mega decibels. Lastly and most importantly for any true blooded Lacson, the paella was on one side and the inasal was on the other side and nothing was marked, so when you were halfway thru your inasal, you realize that you could have had paella!

Yusay-Lacson Clan, most number of attendees

For one to hiss and spit venom because they were not called royale only proves that some branches must have some heavy chips on their shoulders. Either that or they are not really worthy to bear the dignity that the Lacson name has for many generations. Some should even revel in the notoriety of the Lacson name. After all, if not for the many indiscretions of some patriarchs, the glamour of the Lacson name would not be what it is today.

Instead, it was KKB (kanya kanyang bayad) all the way. From the pay as you enter to eat and drink, to the long hours of waiting and not getting to know each other till dinner time to the lame variety show, it was a flop! Next time, don’t even bother to let me listen to some lame duck politician who won’t even get the Lacson votes because the Lacsons are voting somewhere else—so, no need to make pogi points here, buddy. Spare me the intrigues because they’ll get you nowhere… and just let me know I have gorgeous in laws to look at, instead of the pedigreed mutants it has managed to produce through all these past generations! And I will not be party to some Lacson wannabe being chairman to any next Lacson Reunion. Better yet, let’s not have any more Lacson Reunions.
