LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - Western Visayas posted two straight wins in elementary and secondary boys’ basketball, secondary girls’ basketball, secondary girls’ softball and secondary boys’ baseball and eyeing another win to top their respective brackets to advance in the next round on the ongoing ball games of the 2012 Palarong Pambansa here.

The Peewee Demonteverde-mentored elementary boys’ basketball team made it two in a row beating Ilocos Region, 69-52, late yesterday afternoon at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center here to follow up their win against Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR), 68-51, Sunday. They will face Northern Mindanao at the open court here at 6pm today.

The secondary boys’ team of Coach Jack Tumayan followed later at the open court here drubbing Cotabato, 88-66, after beating CAR Sunday, 73-58. They will face Northern Mindanao at 10am today at LNU Gym in Dagupan City. The win will put them on top in Bracket D and face the No. 2 team in Bracket B in the crossover on May 10.

The secondary girls’ basketball also defeated Cotabato (Region 12), 85-48, to follow up their first win over CAR, 94-44, on Sunday. They are set to test powerhouse CALABARZON today at 4:30pm at Binmaley Catholic School.

Defending champion secondary girls’ softball represented by Domingo Lacson National High School, posted its second straight win beating Southern Mindanao (Davao), 5-0 to follow their first win Sunday against Cagayan Valley, 19-3. But defending champion elementary girls’ softball absorbed their defeat at the hands of Central Luzon (Region 3), 8-3 after winning their first match against Eastern Visayas, 14-0 Sunday.

It was still nobody’s game in elementary girls’ softball after other formidable teams also absorbed their defeats. National Capital Region (NCR) lost MIMOROPA, 7-3 yesterday and Central Visayas was clobbered by Zamboanga (Region 9), 7-5.

Southern Mindanao posted its second win over Northern Mindanao (Region 10), 5-1; CALABARZON also top their bracket with a win over Cotabato (Region 12), 1-0; CAR beat CARAGA, 7-3; Eastern Visayas defeated Bicol, 6-0 and Cagayan Valley (Region 2) won over ARMM, 10-0.

In secondary baseball, they also posted their second win after beating CAR, 14-2 to follow up their first win against Cotabato, 6-2; the elementary baseball absorbed their first defeat against Cagayan Valley in a close match yesterday, 5-4after a win against ARMM, 1-0 on Sunday.

Defending champion secondary girls’ volleyball also posted their second win, against CAR and CALABARZON, also the secondary boys beating Bicol and Ilocos. Elementary girls’ volleyball also had two straight wins over CARAGA and Cotabato. While the elementary boy’s won their first match against CARAGA but lost to Ilocos yesterday.* (CMGarde)
