Sugarhigh: So Proud to be a Conlu

From the Benedicto’s, Montelibano’s, Cuenca’s, Lacson’s and Locsin’s to the de la Rama’s—all bear a relation to the Conlu family of Molo. The 1st Conlu

Reunion took place in Iloilo last month at the Malacañang-style Punta Villa Hotel and Resort.

The grand Crown Ballroom was extended three times to accommodate the spill-out crowd of more than two thousand. What was great about this reunion, was that it was free entrance, free luncheon-merienda-dinner to all Conlu relatives. Making sure that the whole family ate well was Engineer Alfonso Conlu Supetran, President of ACS Corporation, makers of Unique Toothpaste, Starwax Floorwax and Pride Detergents among others. His generosity exceeded anyone’s expectations by bringing 300 huge bags of his corporations’ goodies for giveaways to the first families that arrived.

Tudy Yotoko, Celita Conlu, Joen Conlu, Baby Tanalgo, Aklan Board member Joeen Miraflores, Aklan Representative Joeben Miraflores, Cynthia Santos, Manuel Conlu & Chit Conlu (l-r)

Silay Mayor Oti Montelibano, a Conlu descendant on both sides of his family was the guest of honor and donated 2 appliances to the reunion raffle. Another Conlu politico—Aklan Congressman Joeben Miraflores gave a sizeable cash donation. More Conlu politicians—Iloilo Mayor Jed Patrick Escalante Mabilog sent an Ati-Atihan tribe to greet the guests and paid the live band for the evening’s dance. It was an honor to meet his mother Doña Chorit Conlu Locsin Escalante-Mabilog who is a member of my Donato Conlu (green) branch. The statuesque and lovely wife of Senator Antonio Trillanes—Arlene Orejana Trillanes is also a Pedro Conlu descendant and gave much glamour to the occasion.

For entertainment, the Conlu-Jeturian-Lopez family from Manila gave an exciting dance number. It was just getting to know how illustrious is the Conlu family name as members flowed in the gigantic ballroom complex coming in from Manila, Gen. Santos City, Davao, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo province, Guimaras and of course, Negros! I got super excited when I learned that nuclear medicine specialist of St. Luke’s Hospital was cousin Dr. Raymond Conlu, son of Roxas City’s Jose Conlu.

Kudos goes to Ramon Severino Conlu who masterminded the whole affair along with Dr. Conlu, Rey Conlu, Susan Conlu and the Conlu-Aristoza-Layson families. Bob Locsin Montelibano and Noy de Paula Fernandez of Chicago, Illinois also gave cash donations to the clan. It showed what a family reunion should be, everyone wanted to be relatives with everybody and if there was extra cash in their bank accounts paid for everyone whether in or outside the kulambo… If you’re a Conlu, come, join and enjoy the festivities! Let’s be ONE CONLU FAMILY!

EVENTS

The opening of the "Appendix" exhibit—new works by Noël El Farol is on Friday, May 11, 6:30 PM at the Capitana Gallery of Balay ni Tana Dicang in Talisay City.

MY PRAYER

In You, Lord, is the source of life. Alleluia!
