Sports: Negros Occidental to join PNG in Dumaguete, Manila
The province of Negros Occidental will likely join this year’s Philippine National Game (PNG) slated on May 27 to June 3 in Dumaguetes City, Negros Oriental and Manila.
This was disclosed yesterday by Angel "Nonong" Verdeflor, Executive Assistant lV and Provincial Sports Coordinator.
Verdeflor said six male and a female boxers will compose the Negros First Team, while it will send athletes for three events in athletics. If the softball squad from Domingo Lacson National High School, the defending champion in Palarong Pambansa held in Lingayen two weeks ago, is ready, they may also play in the PNG.
Majority of the events, like athletics will be staged in Dumaguete City, while only boxing will be held in ABAP Gym at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Bacolod City is also fielding a squad in athletics composed of runners from Bacolod Tay Tung High School, according to Victor Go, BTTHS Sports head and is bankrolled by Bacolod City government.
The Negros First boxing team will include Aljun De Oro (46 kilograms), Alvin Sibugan (49kgs), Rafael Sueqo (52kgs), Ernesto Ibaqez (56 kgs) and James Caalago (60kgs). The lone female boxer is Riza Pasuit in the 57 kilograms, according to Bert Alison.* (CMGarde)
