Western Visayas Department of Education Regional office will tackle the plan bids of Negros Occidental to host the 2013 Palarong Pambansa when they meet in a 3-day conference at the world famous white sand island resort of Boracay in Aklan on June 25 to 27, 2012.

WV DepEd Regional Director Mildred Garay will assemble all his supervisors - district supervisors & provincial supervisors - to a conference and one of their agenda is the Negros Occidental bidding of 2013 Palarong Pambansa.

Governor Alfredo G. Marañon is pushing for the hosting of the 2013 Palarong Pambansa claiming the province already a push over of the new guidelines by national DepEd for hosting the Palaro- with already a international venue - the Panaad Park and Sports Stadium.

Panaad has been the site of 1998 and 200 Centennial Palaro, aside from hosting the same event in 1979. Cebu City is the main rival of Negros Occidental with their refurbish but having the same area in the heart of the city- the Abellana Sports Stadium which they renamed Cebu City Sports Complex.

Meanwhile, aside from tackling the 2013 Palarong Pambansa, a turnover of WVRAA banner to Aklan will take place on June 26. Aklan will again the venue of next year’s Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet at Aklan Sports Complex in Barangay Calangcang, Makato, Aklan.

With the completion of its main grandstand and track oval, the same venue that also hosted the 2010 event will gather athletes and officials in the entire region comprises of the provinces of Antique, Guimaras, Capiz, Iloilo, Negros Occidental and Aklan.

Executive Assistant to Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr., Angel Verdeflor, and the same time the Provincial Sports Coordinator will delegate the turnover of WVRAA banner to Mr. Romeo Sison, Provincial Department of Education Bureau of Physical Education Supervisor (BPESS).

The turnover will be headed by DepEd Regional Director Mildred Garay and Regional PESS Supervisor Juliet Braga.

Negros Occidental hosted the regional meet last March at Panaad Park and Sports Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City after Iloilo hosted it in 2011. Sixteen sports disciplines are being contested in the regional meet which represents the same events in the Palarong Pambansa.

Negros Occidental wrapped up the overall championship by claiming both the elementary and secondary divisions.

Negros had 385 points as against 345of Iloilo in the elementary division, while it got 436 points in the secondary division, Iloilo also had 396.5 points.

Negros Occidental won the elementary basketball, elementary girls’ badminton, elementary girls’ chess, elementary football, elementary softball, elementary boys’ and girls’ swimming, elementary boys’ and girls’ table tennis, elementary girl’s taekwondo, elementary boys and girl’s tennis, and elementary girl’s volleyball. In elementary division, Iloilo won the boys’ and girls’ athletics, boys’ badminton, boys’ baseball, sipa, boys’ taekwondo, and boys’ volleyball.

Aklan surprisingly placed third overall in elementary division with 158 points, winning the event in boxing and boy’s chess and boys’ arnis. Capiz was fourth with 146 points; Antique is fifth with 79 points and Guimaras was sixth with 56 points.

In secondary division, Negros won the boys’ and girls’ badminton, boy’s baseball and basketball, boxing, boys’ chess, sepak takraw, girls’ softball, boys’ and girls’ swimming, boys’ and girls’ table tennis, boys’ and girls’ tennis and girls’ volleyball.
