Local News: Golez Insists: RA 7724 A Nat’l Law; Admits Sending Letter to Media
Cong. Anthony Golez emphasized over a radio broadcast that he will join the group doing legal acts. But, he knows that RA 7724 was being defied, so he no longer supports the group advocating for new celebration date of Bacolod’s Charter day. He said, RA 7724 is a national law and used as basis by Malacañang in denying the request for another holiday proclamation because of RA 7724.
Golez also admitted having disseminated the letter from Malacañang to the sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod, denying their request for June 18 holiday proclamation. He said, "since I was furnished a copy of the said letter,.so I also faxed it to the media using my fax machine. The fax machine has nothing to do with illegal acts. That is very delicate because it serves as example to the public and the children, Golez also said. If I ever brought it out in my privilege speech, then it is my obligation, otherwise I am answerable as a congressman. Although the letter from Mr. Michael Aguinaldo, deputy executive secretary for legal affairs in Malacanang was addressed to the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City, but it was received yesterday only, June 21, 2012 by the office of the Vice Mayor.
Therefore, Cong. Golez who was one of the furnished with a copy of the said letter, received the copy ahead of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, that he used in sending it to the media through his fax machine in the evening of June 17.
However, the said letter is seemingly superceeded by the greetings of President Aquino published in the regional paper, congratulating Bacolod City for its 74th charter day celebration in June 18.
As to the asphalt overlaying project at Lacson Street, Golez explained that it is already funded by the national government.
He said in the broadcast: "I prioritized Lacson Street because I want to help beautify the city street. We put asphalt overlay to protect the cement.
After this, we will put thermo plastic reflectorized lights so it will become international standard. The same thing with the circumferential road, and the road from Pahanocoy to Bago City, also from Rolling Hills to Brgy. Granada.
The roads they are referring to are local roads and repairing it is the responsibility of the city government, Golez pointed out. The road from Brgy. Pahanocoy to Sum-ag are delapidated already, so it damages the motorists’ car and even people community there.
Golez said Work for these projects will start next month.*
