Sports: Royal Star Trading, Organic Solution Capture Fil-Sino Cage Titles

Royal Star Trading and Organic Solutions captured the titles against separate opponents Monday in the 2012 Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade 1st Conference Inter-Color Basketball tournament held at Po Hang gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Royal Star Trading wrapped the Class A title in the biggest upset over highly favored top seed AACI Trading, 92-82, while top seed Organic Solution lived up to its billing to survive a late rally of Jast Enterprise, 72-65, to claim the Class B title.

Royal Star Trading rose from the grave in the elimination to catch up and qualify for the quarterfinal and scored an upset against No. 2 team Huminova Tigers, 88-81, in the semifinals to arrange a titular showdown with top seed AACI Trading, that also eliminated AACI Transport, 101-92, in their own semifinal encounter Friday.

AACI Trading started on the right track to take the first quarter, 20-17 behind Arvin Gustilo and Mark Binguan in combine efforts of 15 points. It was Marc Lo who put a gallant stand with his 8 points output for the Royal.

Royal’s Matthew Yap who lead his team in scoring with 18 points, made 13 points in the second quarter to equal AACI Trading quarter output. Royal also drew 8 points from Richard Uy to set the tone, 46-33 lead at halftime break.

A balance offensive by AACI Trading anchored on Peter Galon 6 points and Gustilo 7 points cut the deficit , 65-58 going to the fourth quarter.

Jalando-on added 11 and Gustilo shared 6 points, but it was not enough as Royal countered with Rey Pandoro’s 12 points and Kenderson Hao 6 as Royal Star romped away with the title.

Pandoro had 16 points behind Yap’s 18; Lo added 13, Richard Uy hit 10, as Hao, Vincent Tan and Brian Coo scored 8 points each; Devin Villacruz shot 7 and Peter Paul Ortaliz with 6.

Jalando-on finished with a game high 23 points for AACI Trading; Gustilo added 20, Galon 13, Binguan 10 and Julius Teruel with 7.

The Class B encounter seem a mismatch as Organic Solutions as they prepared man-for-man against Jast Enterprise who lack of legitimate point guard forcing them to commit errors notably in the second and third quarters.

In the front line, Jast Enterprise seem not to find solution of the double and triple teaming put up by Organic Solution to deny entry passes in the shaded area.

Although they lead a slim 17-16 in the first quarter with Kevin Banzon and Christopher Mahinay combine for 11 points but Organic’s against Brian Ong and Simon Tan responded with the same output.

Alex Chua stepped up for Organic scoring with 10 points and Ardian Ong added 5 to grab the lead, 39-33 at the half.

Seven players scored for Organic led by Chua with 6 points to extend the lead, 59-46 at the end of the third quarter.

Jast outscored Organic in the final quarter, but Organic was able to fend off the rally and clinch the Class B title.

Alex Chua finished with a game high 22 points for Organic Solutons; Simon Tan added 13, Brian Ong 8 and Errol Su 6.

Mahinay was the lone double digit scorer for Jast with 19, Kieron Tan added 9, Chipeng Uy chipped in 8, Kevin Banzon had 7 and Papang Oxinio with 6.* (with reports from Stephen Tan)
