Sports: Syntax, Condura, Panasonic Book 2nd Win in SHARP-BUSG Invt’l
Syntax, Condura, and Panasonic dropped its opponents in Sharp-BUS Group invitational at West Negros University (WNU) and spoiled the fun of those who enjoyed "San Juan" earlier on Sunday.
Syntax, with only 9 players available, sent Melfern/San Dionisio reeling with a 74-62 whacking while Condura survived Homesite Basketball Organization, 90-89.
Panasonic constricted the flow of BACIWA, 96-81 sending the Watermen to a 0-2 record like HBO and Melfern.
Dagol Flores topscored with 31 points, Arnel Tornilla added 14 and Edgar Basco 10 for Syntax which led 38-30 at half. Bayer Brothers, Rex and Rigor manned the backcourt and provided a tough defense aside from sharing 8 points.
Three-point artist Leo Illustracion hit 12 points, all from the arc and Jose Cadagat scored thesame. Rene Verde muscled his way with 11 markers but the rest of Melfern/SD could only contribute 25.
HBO continued to play tough scaring Condura with a 34-25 windup before losing due to lack of time.
Bert Celis got away with 23, Felipe Tumamot made 21 and Bernie Chan towered under for 14 points for the Ref Makers’ second but scary win.
Lanky Bantong and partner Francisa Occida combined with 34 points, Jomario Mahilum scattered 11 and Amit Teruel sank 10 for Buddy Ferrer’s group which trailed 33-48 at the break.
Sammy Belangel waxed hot with 29 points and Gerson Sipe sniped 10 for BACIWA which logged behind 38-39 at lemon time. Panasonic, however, pushed hard in the pivotal third canto with Hermi Derwil leading the charge hitting 10 of his day’s high 35 points.
Rey de Guzman joined the scoring fray with 20 and Wendell Fuentebella hit 18 as the trio aped Miami’s 163 to close the contest. The rest of the Ref Makers never scored higher than 6 but steady defensive plays by Ed Cruz, Steve Leonidas and Macky Macayan provided the spark.
The single round robin elimination phase ends July 15 and crossover semis start July 22.
Games on Sunday starting at 1 pm pit Panasonic and HBO; Syntax and Condura part ways at 2:30. Melfern/San Dionisio and BACIWA aim for its first win at 4:00.* (HGDoble)
