Based on the assessment conducted on April 27, 2012 by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Bacolod City was chosen as one of the Magic 4 beneficiaries of World Bank and DENR. World Bank’s Project Manager of Integrated Persistent Organic Pollutants of WB said Bacolod City will be given financial and technical assistance (IPOPS), intended for the closure and rehabilitation of its previous dumpsite.

Actually, there are 4 areas chosen as its beneficiary.

Aside from Bacolod, other beneficiary areas are General Santos, Iloilo, Bacolod and other city from Luzon.

A group from the World Bank (WB) in the Philippines and the Dept. of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR) were here in Bacolod yesterday to discuss details of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the city and the WB/DENR for the assistance to be given to Bacolod on the rehabilitation and closure plan of the existing dumpsite, said Gilda Luisma, HR Officer 4 and member of the Solid Waste Management Team/Technical Working Group.

Stipulated in the MOA were procurement guidelines of the World Bank taken up in the meeting at Planta Hotel yesterday. After the meeting, the visitors from the WB and DENR were taken on a visit to the existing dumpsite and sanitary landfill situated in Brgy. Felisa, this city.

Personnel of the World Bank Group in the Philippines who came to the meeting were: Rene Manuel, Senior Procurement Specialist; Gerardo Parco, Rey Ancheta, Tomas Sta. Maria, Marissa David and Jian Xie. EMB-DENR personnel, Solid Waste Management Technical Group and members of the Bids and Awards Committee were with Mayor Leonardia and VM Sayson during the meeting.*
