Sports: TJ Construction Survives Watchmen, 82-76 in 1st PROBAC/LNA7 caging
A last minute break for TJ Construction in the final minute of the game saved them a victory over Watchmen Daily Journal (WDJ), 82-76 last Thursday night in the ongoing 1st PROBAC/LNA7 Invitational Basketball Tournament played at the West Negros University gym.
WDJ was on top by two points at 72-70, with a few minutes left in the ballgame, when a technical foul was called on its bench for unsportsman-like action. This gave TJ the opportunity to tie the game at 72-all.
With momentum shifted to TJ, the squad took the advantage to score and never looked back until the final buzzer sounded.
TJ led the opening quarter with a 27-10 run behind Jeff Zamora’s 10 points backed by Junior Pelingon and Michael Alejandro’s combined 14 points while Piolo Upuan, Cesar Tan and Pril Cacho were shooting bitter for 10 points.
The second quarter went good for WDJ as they outscored TJ, 19-13 on Jun-Jun Alisbo’s 10 points, including three triples, but was good enough to cut the lead to 11 points at the half, 40-29.
After few minutes of rest in the halftime break, the two squads played great basketball from both ends. Justin Baldonado hit 8 points to lead TJ’s 20-16 run as Boboy Berueda and Chico Ranier combined for 10 points. Meanwhile, Henry Bagay and Taboy Corriente nailed 6 points apiece and Adrian Mananquil has 5 points for WDJ.
But WDJ came out sizzling in the fourth period on a 31-22 tally. However, the effort was not enough as they yielded the game to TJ.
Both squads have a win and 3 losses in the tournament.
Zamora paced TJ with 14 points backstopped by Jojo San Miguel with 11, Pelingon with 10, Baldonado with 9 while Berueda, Yobin Vingco, Mitchel Alejandro and Ruel Morales scored 6 points apiece.
On the other hand, Alisbo topscored WDJ with 17 points as Gacho shot 11, Tan and Bagay with 10 points each, and Donald Quilantang with 8 points.
