Local News: ‘Tipon Negrosanon’ Rally Today vs. Pork Barrel
Thousands are expecting to hit the streets in protest on the most popular call of the time – The abolition of the Pork Barrel. In Bacolod City, there will be three kick off points at 8am today which are; The Carmelites in Mandalagan for the Northern contingent, The Chinese Temple for those from the East and Pope John Paul Tower II for the people from the western part of the City.
The protest march will kick off at around 8:30am and a program will be at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon after marchers converges. The broad and multi-sectoral protest is expected to draw people from all walks of life, to deliver a strong message to the Government on their disgust over the billions of pesos lost to few interests of influential individuals while the rest of the people continue to battle against poverty and the lack of social services.
The militant alliance of progressive sectoral organizations under Bagong Alyansang Makabayan will also be part of the said protest action. One of the Tipon Negrosanon – Pork Barrel Untaton, Auke Idzenga says the protest action will show the present administration of the people’s rage over the recent pork barrel scam. Idzenga also added that this will register the people’s position on how should the Government translate the people’s money into genuine and productive programs that will address the decade old problems of the nation.
Bayan Secretary General Christian Tuayon told NDB that they are for the abolition of the pork barrel and is interested in pushing to re-channel government budget to education and social services.
The Makabayan Bloc who are composed of Representatives Neri Colmenares and Carlos Zarate of Bayan Muna, Luz Ilagan and Emmi de Jesus of Gabriela, Antonio Tinio of ACT Teachers, Fernando Hicap of Anakpawis, and Terry Ridon of Kabataan expressed their determination not to access their PDAF as they are fighting for its abolition.*
