Sports: 18th Sandugo-UniGames Still at USLS Next Year
The 18th edition of Sandugo-University Games, after all, will be back to the University of St. La Salle next year and not to Iloilo City schools.
This was learned after the board conducted a consensus after it was floated that next year’s UniGames will be held and to be hosted by three schools in Iloilo- the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, University of San Agustin and Iloilo Doctor’s College.
Rhoderick Samonte, head of USLS Public Relations disclosed that when they asked officials if they want to hold the event in Iloilo Saturday night, no one confirmed. But when they asked if USLS will host next year’s event, they unanimously acceded. This after a number of delegation heads and officiating officials have sent their intentions to the committee that they prefer the event to be held at USLS anew.
Holding UniGames at its home since 1996 is bound with many positive outlooks like accessibility of venues, billeting centers and for transportation of all participating schools from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
This was also the preference of UniGames president Roger A. Banzuela, who claimed earlier that USLS is an ideal location for the games because most of the events can be held inside the campus and the outside venues are near.
The USLS track oval was not finished in time for this year’s event but hope it can accommodate next year’s athletic events and they can avail of lesser rental or none at all of the venues instead of at Panaad Park and Sports Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.* (CMGarde)
