5th NDB OUTSTANDING AWARDS TODAY
Education Advocates Receive Recognition
Two advocates of technological skills and academic excellence among the young, whose prime concern is high-end education as a ticket to success, are among the choices this year of the 5th NDB Outstanding Awards Committee who will receive recognition for their unheralded but valued efforts in the field of educational advancement for the now generation.
Named top choices for Outstanding Negrenses in Education and the Academe are Brother Rolando R. Dizon, FSC, former president, University of St. La Salle (USLS), and Engineer Eddie S. Granada, President and Founder, El Grande Foundation USA, Grande Computer Outreach and Training Center, Philippines.
They are both strong advocates of free computer outreach and solid academic preparation for young technicians in today’s technological advancement and professionalism.
Equally laudable are Former Congressman Monico O. Puentevella whose humanitarian endeavors are well-known, considering his all-out efforts in establishing a long-running medical project, dubbed “Monico, Kabuhi Ko,” which had so far benefitted over 61,000 poor patients needing immediate medical attention and hospitalization.
A hardworking and enterprising insurance executive, Ramon E. Kilayko, known for his exemplary involvement in business and tourism development, is also one of the top choices for the Outstanding Negrense Award during the year. Starting from a lowly clerk early in his career, Mr. Monet Kilayko has gone up the corporate ladder in the insurance industry through dent of hard work, consistency and honesty in the business, who is now senior vice president of Prudential Guarantee and Assurance, Inc.
The NDB Search Committee has picked on two more outstanding professionals, who had been exceedingly successful in their chosen professions, benefitting not only Filipinos and Negrenses here, but also thousands upon thousands of farmers, rural folks and the workingmen here and elsewhere in the world of science, technology and age of modernization.
They are, Mr. Auke Idzenga, founder and chief executive officer of the award-winning Alternative Indigenous Development Foundation, Inc. (AIDFI), whose innovative water technology (Ram Pump) has already been recognized both locally and internationally, benefitting thousands of farmers and agriculturists in critically-waterless areas world-wide.
Mrs. Hazel Andrea-Stuart, on the other hand, whose dedication and love for tourism has benefitted people of various cultural beliefs and outlook in life, had earned plaudits and popular acceptance notably in the Philippines, where she had devoted most of her retirement time and talent through her valuable trove ofdocumentaries of all that’s beautiful and pleasing in this country.
Two former public officials, a vice governor and a former assemblyman and city councilor, were also cited by the search committee, lauding them both for the legacies they have left behind when they died sometime ago.
Recipients of Posthumous Citations from the NDB Search Committee were the late former Vice Governor of Negros Occidental, Romeo “Roy” Gamboa, Jr. and Former Assemblyman Wilson P. Gamboa, Sr., who was also former Bacolod City Councilor and former Undersecretary of National Defense. He had also served as administrator of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA).
