The mission, organized by the Rotary Club of Bacolod Marapara, was held in memory of past club president, the late Mariano Lim, through a family foundation chaired by Mrs Lina Lim. Mr. Lim had been a major donor to the club’s medical programs.
Some 350 barangay members and their children availed themselves of medical checks and dental work including adult and pedia consultations, ECG tests, deworming, and BP and FBS tests. Supporting the medical team were club members, Rotoractors and Barangay health workers.
Brgy. Kagawad and head of the local Committee on Health said medical missions were important to the community adding that the health of residents was a high priority of Brgy. Chair Caroline Mendoza.
“We are most grateful for the Rotary Club of Bacolod Marapara”, he said. “The majority of our people live under the poverty line so medical missions are vital for the wellbeing of residents.”
Said club president Rico Cajili, “We’ve been staging medical missions for 19 years and we are pleased to have the opportunity once again to be of service to the people of Brgy. Calumangan.
“Healthcare is of crucial importance in the community, and medical missions perform a valuable service especially for the less fortunate in our society who cannot always afford to see a doctor.”
Apart from medical missions, the club undertakes many other community activities each year. It’s main fund-raising event is the annual ‘Rotary-Golf for a Cause’ tournament held at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club in Bata, Bacolod.*
