2 die in road mishaps

Two more persons were killed in separate road accidents on Saturday and Sunday, in E.B. Magalona and Bago City, police reports disclosed.

Police Inspector Bonifacio Aral, acting E.B. Magalona police chief identified the victim as Erlinda Sancho, 65, of Purok Mabinuligon, Barangay Alicante in the town.

She died on arrival at Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City due to head and body injuries.

Sancho was crossing the road in Bangga Kawayan, Barangay Alicante when bumped by a speeding vehicle driven by Leonard de Asis, 30.

De Asis is detained at E.B. Magalona jail.

In Bago, the victim was Nelbert Villegas, 33, of Hacienda Talotog, Barangay Dulao, Bago.

His companion and back rider, Noli John Ebuen, 20, of Purok Margarita, Barangay Abuanan was injured.

The two were riding in a motorcycle driven by Villegas when they collided with an Isuzu jeep driven by Jose Dalili, Jr., 45, married, of Purok Shell, Brgy. Dulao also of the city at the constructed road area in Purok Margarita, Barangay Abuanan.

Villegas was declared dead on arrival at Bago Hospital, while Ebuen was treated in the same hospital.

Police investigations disclosed that the two victims were on the right way when Dalili did not see them at the constructed road section with only one lane.

There were already four casualties in recent road mishaps in Negros Occidental.

Last Friday, Antonio Batallones Posadas, 60, of Purok Lumawis, Barangay Damsite, Murcia was killed when his motorcycle fell into a canal and hit his head on a hard object.

Antonio Satodaquil, 54, married, of Purok San Jose Valing. Barangay Libacao, Himamaylan City also died when he collided with a fuel tanker at Bangga Daan in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.

Fuel Tanker Neri Dizo, Jr., 43, of Barangay Prosperidad, San Carlos City is still being detained for the accident.* (Cyrus M. Garde)
