Nietes to Fight in US for PP33 on Oct.17
Murcia-hailed and defen-ding WBO light flyweight champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes is scheduled to headline “Pinoy Pride 33: Filipinos Conta Latinos” on October 17 at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California.
This is the much-awaited moment for the 33-year-old Negrense Pride who has dominated his weight class for more than seven years –making him the longest reigning Filipino world boxing champion.
“I’m very happy with this development. I was originally set to defend my title this November in Bacolod but, upon learning that I’m going to fight in the US, I said to myself that this is it. This is a huge exposure for me,” said Nietes – who have long been waiting for this opportunity.
Nietes, likewise, stressed that they already started their training and preparation for this fight however, has yet to name his opponent. “We will know by next week, maybe, who will be my opponent,” he added.
It was recalled that Nietes fortified his image as among the world’s most successful technical fighters of his time after disappointing Mexican challenger and erstwhile unified titlist Francisco ‘Chihuas’ Rodriguez during his last fight held at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu.
During the fight’s launch-ing at the Montebello Villa Hotel in Cebu, ALA Promo-tions President and CEO Michael Aldeguer said that this is something we’ve always planned out for the past years.
Nietes will be joined by celebrated Pagara brothers – ‘Prince’ Albert and Jason ‘El Niño’ and the rising ALA star Mark ‘Magnifico’ Magsayo.*
