City Mayor, DPWH to Probe Demolition of Burgos Road Islands
Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella has sent a letter to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio Singson requesting his office to investigate the sudden demolition of road islands along the Burgos thoroughfare that led to the destruction of plants and flowers in the structure.
The P140 million construction project is said to be included in the tourism budget of former Lone District Representative Anthony Golez and will construct and improve the access road leading to the La Salle Eco Park in Barangay Alangilan. The ongoing construction however is causing traffic, especially during rush hours, as well as safety hazards among pedestrians.
"This is a good project and we all want what’s best for Bacolod," said Puentevella. Further, he added that he wasn’t duly informed of the sudden decision of the District Engineer and pointed that they have violated a breach of protocol.
"They should have waited until the mayor or the City Engineer’s Office gave them the signal to proceed," Puentevella added, while stating that transactions involving the city should be coursed through the City Mayor’s Office, even though the ongoing development is being mandated on a national road under Congressman Evelio Leonardia.*(CMO-PIO)
