3 Cops, 1 Tanod Hurt in Hacking
CADIZ CITY - Three policemen and barangay police of Barangay Tiglawigan, this city were wounded when a mentally-ill person hacked them when they tried to arrest him after setting on fire a makeshift bamboo house about 11:00 am, yesterday.
Police Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, Cadiz City PNP chief said, his men were responding to arrest Jerry Abraham, of legal age, resident of Sitio Tuong, Barangay Tiglawigan.
Abraham is reportedly suffering from nervous breakdown.
Police Officer 1 Ricardo Villaflores, who was manning the COMPACT in Barangay Tiglawigan, responded with barangay tanod Mario Diola to the scene, but Abraham was armed with a bolo.
Villaflores called for reinforcement and Police Officer 3 Vicente Aranguez and PO1 Villanueva responded. They tried to convince Abraham to yield but he refused.
Villaflores came to Abraham with Diola but they were hacked and was wrestled by the suspect. Seeing the situation, Aranguez joined to subdue the suspect and had him handcuffed. Villaflores sustained slight hack wounds in the hands and arms, along with Diola, while Aranguez on the shoulder.
Villanueva also joined them but was also hit in the arm. They were rushed to Cadiz Emergency Clinic here, but were later transferred to Cadiz District Hospital for treatment.
The police officers failed to subdue the suspect who was able to free himself, even with handcuffs and escaped to a woody area.
Police cordoned the area to conduct hot pursuit operation.*
