The management of the Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA), with a recently-approved capital expenditure chest of P21 million for 2014, will acquire generator sets to solve the effects of rotational brownouts that hamper the delivery of water supply in some water distribution areas in Bacolod.

BACIWA General Manager Atty. Julie Ann Carbon, who is now in Metro Manila with with some members of the BACIWA Board for a courtesy call on Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) officials, told NDB that the the procurement of generator sets is a part of their bulk water supply project.

Carbon revealed that as of now, BACIWA is withholding the imposition of water rate hike as this request for a rate adjustment is not yet resolved by LWUA until now, since they had filed a petition last 2011.

Mayor Monico Puentevella disclosed his intent to bid for Bacolod to play host for the 59th edition of the Palarong Pambansa, the country’s leading multi-sporting event for students.

Puentevella, a former Philippine Sports Commissioner (PSC) and President of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) said that he, in behalf of the city, is appealing to Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro to "retain the present setup" of hosting the Palarong Pambansa – an effort that could potentially give the hosting rights to the city in 2016 instead of 2017.

"Bacolod is the perfect venue for the Palaro and we have the tradition of hosting big sporting events to prove that we are more than capable to host the prestigious affair," expressed Puentevella.
