The University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos (UNO-R) will have its groundbreaking ceremony of the four–storey Integrated School Building today, January 5, 2017. This new facility is built to house the Basic Education Department of the university.

Elements of Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU) of Negros Island Region (NIR), Region 18 and Police Station 4 arrested a wanted person at CLMontelibano, Homesite in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Led by SPO1 Joshua Barile, RIU head in coordination with Police Station 4 headed by Senior Inspector Elmer Bonilla arrested Timothy James Santibañes, 32, of Barangay Villamonte.

Three arrest warrants were served to him signed by Judge Philadelfa Pagapong-Agraviador of the Regional Trial Court Branch-43 in Bacolod City dated December 12, 2016.

Two drug personalities were arrested in a drug buy bust around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Sitio Pangpang in Barangay 1, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.

Police Superintendent Antonietto Cañete, Himamaylan City PNP chief identified the suspects as Sandy Dillentas Toreta, “Alias Gaga”, 36, married, resident of the place; and JR De La Cruz Bañares, 25, single, also of the place.

Cañete said Toreta is their target while Bañares was arrested inside his house.

Stella Rose Rayos, head of the Permits and License Division in the Treasurer’s Office of Bacolod City, announces that businessmen can avail of 10 percent discount if they pay in full their business taxes from January 3 to 20. Also, the renewal and new registration of business permits will be easier because it will be pro-cessed up to three days only instead of five days. This is attributed to the Business One Stop Shop for the renewal and new registration of business permits that started January 3 and will run until January 20, from 8am to 5pm no noon break, at the lobby of NGC.

The Area Manager of Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (NONECO) in Sagay City survived an assassination attempt after he was shot by a lone suspect riding on a motorcycle at Bangga Pepsi, Barangay Bata around 6:16 p.m. Tuesday.

Police Station 3 head, Senior Inspector Larry Teovisio identified the victim as Engr. Simon Peter Abalayan 40, married, of Country Homes, Phase 1, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City.

He sustained five gunshot wounds in the body but was not fatally hit and is now confined at Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital in Barangay Mandalagan.

Bacolod Division Schools Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas said they are slowing down on the issue of condom distribution in schools.

She quoted a government official who was asked in a national television on the controversial issue who said they will take things slowly in implementing the move.

Demavivas clarified that there is no DepEd memo on condom distribution in schools yet.

Asked for her personal view, she said she shares the opinion of other teachers that they would rather have education first before moving into the distribution of the birth control.
