The procession of the Senior Sto Niño and the devotees with the Sadsad dancers opens the 41st Sinulog sa Kabankalan today, January 6, to be followed by the first 9-day novena mass at 6:00p.m., city plaza, in celebration of the feast of the Senior Sto Niño on January 15.

The second day will present the Sinulog Pop Dance Competition at 7:00 p.m., city plaza

There are two “persons of interest” in the shooting of Sagay City Area Manager of Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (NONECO) who was shot at Bangga Pepsi in Barangay Bata while on his way home to Country Homes, Phase 1, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City at 6 p.m. last January 3.

This was disclosed by Atty. Dan Pondevilla, General Manager of NONECO with main office at Barangay Tortosa in Manapla town.

Although they presented three angles to the investigator of Police Station 3 that have jurisdiction in Barangay Bata, only one of them has weight and work-related.

In celebration of the 43rd Dinagsa Festival 2017, the city government of Cadiz will hold the 2nd Dinagsa 21k Half Marathon at the city hall on Saturday, January 28.

The 21k half marathon run feature 5k and 10k categories for fun runners with 3 major winners in each category and special prizes awaits participants.

All runners will get singlets and race bibs, while 10k finishers will receive medals and 21k’s will also be given medals & t-shirts.

The top drug personality in San Carlos City was arrested in a drug buy bust operation on Wednesday in Purok Molave, Barangay 1 in the city.

San Carlos City PNP identified the suspect as Siegfried Frediquilan, 38, resident of the place.

Police authorities confiscated from him P27, 000 worth of suspected shabu and recovery of marked money.

Frediquilan is the top drug personality in San Carlos City PNP watch list.

He is detained and charged with violation of RA 9165 in court.*

A taxi driver foiled a hold up attempt around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday at San Mateo Village in Barangay Banago, Bacolod City.

Taxi driver Roy Roel Bowata, 36, native of Barangay Jerusalem, Cadiz City shouted for help that alerted residents who responded, resulting to the arrest of one suspect; while another was able to escape.

The arrested suspect was a certain Jay Garcia, 36, of Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City.

Bowata said the suspect boarded in the downtown area and upon reaching the place, announced the hold up.

The Regional Special Operation Task Group of Region 18 and Bago City PNP arrested a businessman in a buy bust operation and raid in his house at Barangay Mailum, Bago City, Negros Occidental yesterday (Thursday) morning.

Superintendent David Cachumbo, Bago City PNP chief identified the suspect as Sammy Caaya, of legal age, resident of the place.

Initial buy bust operation conducted on him yielded to two big sachets of suspected shabu (bulto) worth about P27, 000 in market value and other drug paraphernalia. Also confiscated from him was P500 marked money.

Ceres Negros Football Club returned to training at the North Field in Talisay City yesterday.

This is the start of the team’s tough preparation ahead of the Philippines Football League and the 2017 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup Group Stage.

Ceres Negros FC will be among the initial teams in the PFL which is tentatively kicking off this March. The provincial club will most-likely to face familiar opponents such as their arch rival Global FC – which undergoing adoption procedure with Cebu Football Association.

Lawyer Patrick Aquino of the Department of Energy (DOE) urged the public not to buy surplus appliances because they are not energy efficient.

In a recent meeting of PIA managers, he said second hand appliances coming from other countries consume a lot of energy. There is a market for it because it is cheap, he added.

The fact that they are sold here means these products are already being phased out in the country of origin and therefore, not a good choice to use, he said.

Teams from various colleges and universities in NIR as well as in the UAAP are expected to gather in a 4-day 1st Sagay Men’s Open Football Championship 2017 scheduled January 7-10 at the Sagay National High School Football Field.

Leading the cast of teams are DFL U21 division titlist and NOPSSCEA reigning champions University of St. La Salle of many times champion mentor Norman Fegidero alongside Carlos Hilado Memorial State College Men’s Team, Negros Oriental Selection, Northern Negros Selection and the visiting Ateneo de Manila University.
