A woman was arrested by San Carlos City police after she was entrapped at the City’s Public Market Transport Terminal in Barangay Palampas of the city around 2:00 P.M. Tuesday.

Marcelina Ardiente Yonzon, 41, single, of Sitio Tunga, Barangay Palampas reportedly extorted from a senior citizen who complaint to the police.

The victim, identified as Conrado Tanghiyan Canania, 68, married, of Sitio Salvacion, Barangay Magticol, Toboso in Negros Occidental, was enticed by the suspect to give him P15, 000 and meet her at the Transport Terminal.

A farmer who was sent to buy ginger to be planted on his farm was found dead inside a cock farm in Lamitga, Barangay Minoyan, Murcia town, Negros Occidental Wednesday morning.

Senior Inspector Hector Balbon, Murcia PNP police chief identified the victim as Renato Italia, 33, married, of Purok Paglaum, Barangay Minoyan. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body with a 12-gauge shotgun.

The suspect was identified as Jerome Lamiti, 18, caretaker of the cock farm owned by a certain Diony Vocal reportedly of Metro Manila.

Thirty four (34) policemen from Negros Island Region (NIR) are now being transferred to Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) and Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) with the transfer of three police officers and one non-commissioned officer to ARMM.

Their order was effective January 6, 2007.

The police officers are Chief Inspectors Argel Ancheta, Jerick Filisofo and Jeffrey Attunaga. The PNCO is Police Officer 3 Nerwin Oñas who is assigned at Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO).

New vehicles for provincial board members are “a necessity,” Senior Board Member Salvador Escalante said yesterday.

Escalante (2nd district) said that the Provincial General Services Office conducted a second bidding for eight brand new service vehicles for members of the Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP).

He said the first bidding was declared a failure so that a second bidding was required.

“The prices set for the purchase of the new vehicles was too tight that no suppliers submitted any bid,” he pointed out.

The yearly celebration of the Chinese New Year falls on January 29, Sunday. This will be given impetus in Bacolod City with the celebration of the 12th Bacolaodiat Festival on January 27, 28 and 29, according to Jennifer Gochangco-Ong, festival chairman. This is capped with a grand parade on January 29 from the Bacolod public plaza to the North Capitol Road.

There are three venues for this year’s Bacolaodiate festival: the North Capitol Road, Yuan Temple at Burgos Extension, and at the Bacolod City Government Center.

The driver of a motorcycle and one of his companions were killed when their motorcycle collided with a cargo truck loaded with sugarcane along the highway of Barangay Jonob-Jonob, Escalante City around 5:00 a.m. yesterday.

Superintendent Leonardo Borromeo, Escalante City PNP chief identified the victims as Oscar Mananaw Ape, 30, and Raymund Locero Palaa, 24, single-both of Sitio Nabutaan, Barangay Jonob-Jonob, Escalante.

A desktop computer and other paraphernalia stored at the Annex Building of the Bacolod City Government Center were stolen Monday [Jan. 9] morning, before 7:00 a.m., a City Hall official said yesterday.

Retired Police Senior Supt. Celestino Guara, now Executive Assistant to Mayor Evelio Leonardia and cluster head on Peace and Order, Police Matters, Traffic, and Fire, disclosed in a press conference yesterday, that the theft was “an act of political sabotage by the people not allied with the present administration.”

Congress is the proper venue for a hearing in aid of legislation on the entry of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) by beverage companies into the country, Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said yesterday.

Lacson expressed concern over the issue even as he called on “stakeholders of the sugar industry to continue to dialogue with food processors and industrial users.”

“They should be reminded that they could kill an industry that patronizes their product,” the Vice Governor said.

Three construction workers from Binalbagan town were arrested for possessing illegal drugs, at Purok Paraiso, Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Kabankalan PNP identified them as Danilo Hernandez Miraflores, 51, married; Leo Conclara Galvan, 32, married, Dindo Nalda Aguilar Nalda, 31, married, all of Barangay San Jose in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.

Residents of the place reported them to police inside the house of a certain “Nombre” who were acting suspiciously.

The Bacolod City Sang-guniang Panlungsod ap-proved a resolution re-questing the Bacolod City Police Office to intensify police visibility and crime deterrence by assigning police personnel in the streets and schools, during their regular session Wed-nesday.

Councilor Caesar Distrito, author of the resolution said that instead of assigning them in malls where there are already security guards to implement security mea-sures, police personnel should be on the streets as a means of preventing crimes and to strengthen police visibility.

The municipal government of Don Salvador Benedicto has warned the public against buying land in the town being advertised on a Facebook page.

Lawyer Cesar Beloria Jr., Executive Assistant for Legal and Administrative Affairs to DSB Mayor Marxlen de la Cruz told Negros Daily Bulletin (NDB) yesterday that the FB page “is not the official FB Page of the current DSB Municipal Administration nor in any way connected with them.”

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has said that it will soon build a farm school to help uplift the lives and skills of farmers and fishers.

TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong has said that the farm school also aims to increase the earnings of the fishers and farmers.
