A trisikad driver was charged with rape in the City Prosecutor’s Office here Monday after he raped his own 10-year-old daughter Saturday in Barangay Felisa, Bacolod City.

Senior Police Officer 4 Arlyn Torrendon, OIC head of Bacolod City Police Office Women and Children’s Desk said the suspect is a 31-year-old father she refused to identify.

She said the rape was proven consummated after a medical certificate issued by a City Health physician.

The suspect was arrested after the victim, the eldest of their five children, told her mother about the incident.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has ordered the cessation of construction operations of Hydrotec Renewables Inc. on both of their projects located at Sitio Campuestohan, Brgy. Cabatangan, Talisay City and Brgy. Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto, as per instruction from DENR-NIR Regional Director Al O. Orolfo and Memorandum from Undersecretary Demetrio L. Ignacio with the attached Memorandum from Biodiversity Management Bureau Director Theresa Mundita S. Lim, stating that the Memorandum of Agreements in favor of the two proposed mini-hydroelectric power plants within the Northern Negros Natural Park cannot be given due course.

Stakeholders of the sugar industry in the province has called on President Rodrigo Duterte to stop the unabated importation of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) as it will lead to the death of the industry.

A resident of Mabinay town in Negros Oriental was arrested for possessing unlicensed firearm around 1:40 a.m. Monday at Kabankalan City Public Plaza in Barangay 5.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City PNP chief identified the suspect as Libirith Gemotea Moreno, 24, single, of Sitio Batok, Barangay Baras in Mabinay town, Negros Oriental.

Moreno was spotted by patrolling Kabankalan City PNP at the public plaza with bulging waist. He was then approached by police officers who discovered a homemade .38 caliber firearm with six live bullets tucked in his pants.

The Fil-Sino Athletic Club will be holding its 1st Invitational Open Basketball Tournament this year.

Dubbed as the “Fil-Sino Athletic Club Asia Brewery Invitational Cup 2017”, Asia Brewery Incorporated will be the major sponsor.

This endeavor is made possible through the efforts of Mr. Jerome Liao, Manager of the Bacolod Sales Office.

Sixteen teams will composed the tournament. It will be classified as under Class A and Class B categories.

A Negros-based environment group has slammed “the continued and unabated mining of black sand or magnitite in Sagay City.”

In a statement, Green Alert-Negros (GAN) said during their community interaction and discussion at Margaha Beach Resort, Brgy. Old Sagay, on January 14, residents told them that magnitite mining continues in Himogaan River and along the shorelines of Brgy. Old Sagay.

Members of Pamalakaya, a local fishermen’s group complained that because of the mining, “they have not fished in the areas.”

Superintendents Antonieto Cañete and Orly Gabinete are leaving their police station respectively. Cañete is the police chief of Himamaylan City PNP while Gabinete in La Carlota City PNP.

Cañete will be replaced by Chief Inspector Antonio Benitez in Himamaylan City PNP, while replacement of Gabinete is not yet known.

Cañete will be assigned to Police Region-18, while Gabinete at PRO-6 in Iloilo City, being a native of Iloilo City.
