Some roads will be closed for the celebration of the 12th Bacolaodiat Festival, which will highlight the Year of the Rooster, on January 27-29, 2017.

On January 27 ad 28, the Lacson Tourism Strip, from Cottage Road to 13th Lacson St., will have a partial closure at 2 p.m. and a total closure at 4 p.m.

Vehicles passing through the area will be rerouted.

The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental would like to inform the public that Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. has approved the TOTAL CLOSURE of the Provincial Capitol Park and Lagoon starting this Saturday, January 28, 2017 until the landscaping is completely finished.

This is due to the ongoing renovation/construction which covers almost all areas of the park.

This is also to ensure the safety of the public as well as to expedite the ongoing construction/landscaping of the park.*(Capitol News)

The Bacolod-Silay Airport in Negros Occidental is one of five airports in the country that will be included in the inquiry for privatization plan.

Bacolod Congressman Greg Gasataya said, under the proposed plan, concession agreement to maintain and operate said airports will be for 30 years.

The proposal to conduct congressional inquiry in aid of legislation was the result of a hearing by the committee on transportation regarding the planned privatization of the five airports.

The Manila Beer Light and Colt 45 have prevailed over their opponents in the Class B action of Fil-Sino Asia Brewery 1st Invitational Cup at University of St. La Salle Coliseum Tuesday.

Manila Beer Light defeated Tanduay, 64-57 while and Colt 45 prevailed over Tiger Beer, 54-42.

Jason Yap led a balance offensive to push Colt 45 to 34-22 at the half. But the Tiger Beer limited Colt 45 for 5 points in the 3rd quarter to cut the lead 39-35 behind the three triples of Ralph Richard Tan.

A woman and two male drug suspects were arrested and another escaped in two separate drug busts in EB Magalona town in Negros Occidental Wednesday.

The suspects were arrested by combined operatives of Regional Special Operations Task Group-PRO-18 led by Superintendent Robert Lingbawan and EB Magalona PNP led by Senior Inspector Bonifacio Aral.

A farmer of Kilusang Mambubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) was shot dead while working in his farm in Barangay San Benito, Calatrava town yesterday, January 26.

Police Chief Inspector Joel Batusbatusan, Calatrava PNP chief identified the victim as Wenceslao Pacquiao, 48, resident of the place.

Pacquiao sustained four gunshot wounds from a .45 caliber firearm. He was hit in the head and body and died on the spot, according to witness Rubico Pabuaya, another farmer’s group member.

About 1.7 grams of suspected shabu worth P17, 000 were confiscated by police operatives in a drug bust. Arrested were seven persons in Ylagan Extension, Barangay 6, San Carlos City at 2:50 p.m., Wednesday, January 25.

Two dead bodies were found in Sagay and Bago cities yesterday, January 26.

In Sagay City, the unidentified dead body only in his briefs was fished out in Himogaan River at Purok Orchids, Barangay Malubon around 12:30 noon.

The victim was in his late 30s or 40s and already in the state of decomposition. Barangay officials through Village Chief Teodoro Añalucas, Jr. decided to bury the body with consent of the city officials.

In Bago City, the body of Jason Leo Ayubo, 35, single, of Villa Cristita, Barangay Ma-ao was found dead inside his house.

The Police Regional Office (PRO)-18 will deploy 2,300 police personnel for the hosting of a meeting of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting in Bacolod City this year.

Regional regional director Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, said he is hoping the number of police to be deployed is roughly half the total police strength of the Negros Island Region (NIR).

“I am not worried and concerned.”

This was the reaction of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo over the arrest warrant issued against him by the Sandiganbayan over the alleged misuse of calamity funds.

Degamo said that someone was, whom he does not identify, did not yet accept that he won the governorship in the previous election by a “very wide margin.”

The Governor is now in Manila to post bail.

However, he said he has not yet received a copy of the arrest warrant.

Canlaon City Mayor Jimmy Clerigo has posted bail after he was charged with 12 others of corruption, over the questionable processing of loan funds back in 2005.

Clerigo said he paid the required bail of P30,000 for his temporary freedom after the Office of the Ombudsman found him guilty and sentenced him to nine years imprisonment and barred from holding public office.

The case said that the Mayor authorized and contracted a P60 million loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), intended for livelihood projects.
