The shutdown of the Malampaya natural gas facility may soon raise power rates in the coverage area of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO), its general manager said yesterday.
Sulpicio Lagarde said that the power hike “maybe a possibility as we are connected to the Luzon grid.”
“If the source of power in Luzon goes down, they will utilize whatever power is available from the Visayas,” Lagarde pointed out.
He said that based on the last shutdown of Malampaya, the rate increase was P2.
“I am not saying that it will be the same,” he said.
