Most sought after local delicacies and farm products of Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB) will also be showcased during the Feb. 3 to 9, 2017 Kali-kalihan Harvest Festival of the town.

Mayor Lawrence Marxlen de la Cruz told NDB the 27th Kali-kalihan and the 34th Founding Anniversary of the coolest town in Negros will open today with a grand parade at 8AM.

The grand opening ceremony will follow at 9AM at the gym.

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in Negros Occidental is investigating 14 cases of extra-judicial killings in the province, its records show.

Romeo Baldevarona, CHR head said that most of the cases they are investigating involves “drug buy bust ope-rations by the police under its Oplan Tokhang which resulted in shoot-outs.”

“We will present our findings to the United Nations through the International Human Rights Watch,” he said.

Seven passengers of two mini buses figured in an accident at Mabini Highway, Barangay Zone 5, Talisay City, Negros Occidental around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Superintendent Adonis Rosales, Talisay City PNP chief identified the injured as Josephine Butalid, 48; Dinah Taganile, 47, and Delba Maguate, all of Barangay San Isidro, Toboso town; Tara John Onsec and Ronilo Sanchez of Barangay Madalag in EB Magalona; Nenita Lauresta of Barangay Guinhalaran, Silay City and Iggy Pacheco of La Carlota City.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Bacolod City has summoned six medical personnel of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) to appear in its office next week in connection with the complaint filed by a father over the death of his 21-year-old daughter and her unborn twins.

Special Investigator III William de Arca Jr. yesterday said hospital staff will also be required to submit their respective affidavits and be accompanied by their legal counsels.

Heineken notched its 2nd straight win over Manila Beer Light, 61-55, while Tiger Beer had to scramble in the endgame to hold off Rotary/Rexidol-Cobra, 58-55 in Class B of the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery 1st Invitational Cup at BTTHS Covered Court last Tuesday.

Although MBL took the 1st quarter 14-7, Heineken’s Nico Lopingco stepped up to keep their team within distance, 31-25 at the break.

Heineken got a big lift from Joseph Papang Oxinio who made 6 of 7 from the perimeter to give Heineken, 46-37 lead going to the 4th quarter.

A multi-sectoral protest is set today in front of the Coca-Cola Bottling plant and the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) to demand the issuance of a sugar order regulating the entry of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS).

Lawyer Archie Baribar, spokesperson of the Kilusang Pagbabago in the Negros Island Region said the unabated entry of HFCS have driven down the prices of sugar in the market.

An old woman who just emerged from the church was swindled by about two suspects, one of them identifying himself as the victim’s relative, stashing around P90, 000 cash and jewelries, Wednesday.

Visitacion Vazquez, of Barangay Zone 12, Talisay City reported the incident to the city’s police force but Superintendent Adonis Rosales told her to report the incident to Police Station 4 in the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).

Some 1,900 officers, teachers, and contestants- all campers at the Pontevedra National High School marked the worldwide celebration of World Wetlands Day, February 2.

Campers are officers and members of the Youth for Environment in Schools-Organizations who are now participating in the 3-day 5th Division YES-O camp, this year with the theme “Negros Occidental Coastal Wetlands: Cradle of Biological Diversity, Safeguard against Natural Disaster”.
