Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Negros Island Region(BJMP-NIR) launched Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Program initially at Jose Torres Elementary School in Brgy. Singcang-Ariport in Bacolod last Friday, February 3, 2017. The activity was attended by parents, students and teachers.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and local government officials laid the plans of the first Ramsar Marker of the Negros Occidental Coastal Wetlands Conservation Area at the Kabankalan City Hall during the World Wetlands Day on Feb. 2.

The mayor of the mountain town of Don Salvador Benedicto warned those who are interested to buy land in the said town to “buy at your own risk.”

Mayor Marxlen de la Cruz made the warning after some properties within the NNNP, were reported to be advertised for sale on the social media.

“Properties under the Northern Negros Natural Park are not for sale,” de la Cruz pointed out.

The mayor advised them to be truthful when dealing real properties as “only 31 percent of the real properties in the town are titled.”

The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) has asked industry stakeholders for ‘time’ to tackle concerns over the unabated importation of High Fructuous Corn Syrup (HFCS).

“We are going through the process of consultation with various stakeholders and last week we have received some requests if they can allow some other position papers or comments to come in,” Anna Rosario Paner, SRA administrator told Atty. Archie Baribar, of the Kilusang Pagbabago Friday.

Blitz Summit and Fil-Sino Selection Beer Na Beer registered three straight wins to top the standing in Class A action of the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery 1st Invitational Cup at Po Hang Gym of BTTHS.

Fil-Sino Selection defeated Talisay Gwapo – Sunkist, 78-70, while Blitz defeated AX Currency-Barista, 107-73.

Ryan Hugnatan and Sonny Abaring combined for 14 points in the opening quarter to lead Talisay-Gwapo over Fil-Sino, 21-14.

But balance Fil-Sino offensive led by Sean Wee gave the lead to Fil-Sino at the break, 38-33.

A woman fish vendor lost her foot while eleven others were injured in a four-vehicle accident at Crossing Bangga 8 in Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City around 6:30 in the evening Friday.

The victim who lost her right foot was identified as Marilyn Baytal, 47, married of Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City. Her right foot was cut off and she was rushed to Bacolod Adventist Medical Center in Barangay Taculing, while his right foot mistakenly was brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

A resident of Purok 6 in Barangay 1, Hinobaan, Negros Occidental was in critical condition when he was mauled and stabbed by four suspects, one of them he identified as someone from Purok 2 in Barangay Alim also of the said town around 11:00 in the evening Thursday.

Senior Inspector Leomel Gonzaga, Hinobaan OIC police chief identified the victim as Rolando Galvez Abelo, 38, married of Purok 6 in Barangay 1 Hinobaan.

He sustained stab wound at the back of his body. Before he was stabbed, three persons he failed to identify mauled him.

Three unidentified suspects shot dead a fish vendor past 6:00 in the evening Friday in Barangay Inayawan in Cauayan town, Negros Occidental.

Police Officer 3 Apollo De la Cruz, homicide investigator of Cauayan PNP identified the victim as Arnold Salvador Ajeño, 36, of the place.

He sustained two gunshot wounds in the chest and head, and died on-the-spot from still unidentified caliber of firearm.

De La Cruz said the three suspects just passed by the area where many residents are buying fish from the victim and was busy attending to them.

Nine houses were totally destroyed while two others were partially damaged as one occupant was injured in a fire that gutted the houses in Purok Sto. Niño in Barangay Zone 4 in Cadiz City around 1:00 in the morning yesterday (Sunday).

Fire Senior Inspector Gregorio Otico, Cadiz City Fire Marshall said the fire gutted the houses made of light materials including cemented walls, galvanized iron, wood and nipa.

A person who fires his firearm every time he gets drunk was arrested by responding policemen of Hinobaan PNP at Barangay Cartagena in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental Wednesday evening.

Chief Inspector Romeo Vargas, OIC police chief of Sipalay City PNP identified the suspect as Felipe Ubas, 41, of Purok Kakahuyan, Barangay Cartagena in Sipalay City.

Vargas said that the Village Chief of Barangay Cartagena inform them that the suspect fired his improvised 12-gauge shotgun in the barangay that cause panic to the residents.

A store and an elementary school were ransacked by unidentified suspects in Talisay City Thursday evening.

Ailene Colanto Articona, of Purok Kulitis in Barangay Dos Hermanas, Talisay City told police investigators that her store annexed to their house was ransacked by unidentified suspects that gained entry by destroying the back door.

She lost a flat screen television worth P12, 000 and P2, 000 cash proceeds of the store.

An ex-convict abducted a 3-year-old girl and mauled the father of the girl then smashed him with a stone together with his group of about ten in Barangay 2, Bacolod City on February 2, Thursday evening.

The father, Christopher Delabiste reported the incident to Police Station 2 that responded but failed to catch up with the suspect and the girl at South Terminal in Bacolod City.
