The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), last Tuesday served the dismissal order of the Ombudsman to nine city officials and employees of Bacolod City.

This was confirmed by Atty. Anthony Nuyda, concurrent DILG director for Western Visayas and Negros Island Region after receiving a letter from local government Undersecretary Austere Panadero.

A hold-up suspect was arrested in BS Aquino Drive, a few meters away where he held up a 19-year-old of her Apple tablet worth P20, 000 in front of Redemptorist Church Monday evening.

Police Chief Inspector BenedictoVillarias, Police Station 2 chief identified the suspect as Raymond Acuña Apellido, 24, of Purok Tilapia, Barangay 3, Bacolod City.

Rose Amantillo, 19, of Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City was walking in front of the church when the suspect appeared and announced the hold up. He told her that if they will not give the tablet, he will shoot them.

Newly-organized Bacolod City Chess Association, Inc. (BCCAI) headed by Dominador Bergano Jr. is set to host the 1st Inter-Barangay “Mayor’s Cup” Chess Team Championship 2017 at NGC Annex Building on February 11-12.

The four-leg team championships has been tentatively scheduled to be played on April 29-30, July 29-30, and October 7-8 with an individual grand event on December 16-17.

“There are a lot of talented chess players and enthusiasts in our city (Bacolod) that needs proper support and exposure to hone them in preparation to bigger events,” Bergano stressed.

Facing his impending relief as Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) of Negros Occidental, Andres Untal said that he will not quit his post as park supervisor of the Northern Negros Natural Park (NNNP).

In a statement, Untal said, “Northern Negros Natural Park needs me. I am from this area and I will not allow that the island’s last frontier will be put for naught or be jeopardized.”

“Millions of people rely on this last remaining piece of forest as watershed for Negros Occidental and this is our last piece of forest,” Untal said.

An alleged New People’s Army (NPA) member was arrested while riding her car with husband at Sto. Niño Stop, Barangay 2 around 6:00 P.M.Tuesday.

Rogina Navarro Quilop, legal age, resident of Barangay 10, Bacolod City was flagged down and ordered transferred to the patrol car of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) PRO-18 and was brought to Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office in Camp Alfredo Montelibano, Sr. in Camingawan, Barangay Estefania.
