As a practice of the Bacolod City government initiated by Mayor Evelio Leonardia several years ago and to give impetus to the celebration of Valentine’s Day, 469 unwed couples will exchange vows today with Mayor Leonardia as solemnizing officer. Principal sponsors are all city councilors and Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran.

The ceremony will be held at the public plaza at 3:00 p.m.

The City of Bago in cooperation with Today’s Responsive Youth is set to crown Diwata sang Bago 2017 during the grand coronation night which will be held at 7:00 tonight at the Manuel Y. Torres Memorial Coliseum and Cultural Center.

A Special Law Enforcement Unit (SLEU) to go after illegal gambling activities has been organized by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) after the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Unit (PAIDU) was disbanded.

Senior Supt. William Señoron, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, said the new special unit will be placed under the supervision of the Deputy Provincial Police Director for Operations, and majority of former PAIDU personnel then headed by Chief Inspector Mark Anthony Darroca.

EB Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon wants couples who plan to be part of the town’s mass wedding ceremonies to participate in mangrove planting.

Malacon will officiate 69 couples set to tie the knot today, Valentine’s Day in a mangrove planting activity held last Friday at Barangay Tuburan in EB Magalona, Negros Occidental.

The Mayor said that he wants the Sanggunian Bayan to pass an ordinance to make mangrove planting a requirement for couples joining the annual mass wedding program.

The National Contractors Association of the Philippines (NACAP) with Philippine Contractors Association Board (PCAB) spearheaded a two-day Authorized Managing Officers (AMO) Course from February 10-11, 2017 at the Red House Taiwan Restaurant, Lacson-San Sebastian Sts., Bacolod City.

The activity was spearheaded by Engr. Bernabe “Abe” Gilbor, Region 6 Director, together with Datu Farouk M. Macarambon Sr., NACAP National President, Atty. Alejandria G. Gomez, PCAB Executive Director, Engr. Sergie T. Retome, PCAB Board Secretary and Engr. Rene E. Fajardo, CMDF OIC/Director.

The Army’s 3rd Infantry Division stationed at Camp Peralta, Jamindan, Capiz, is now focusing on three major campaigns for peace and development, as it conducted the other day the 3-day mission planning held in Negros Occidental, which was participated in by top brass of the Army in the 3rd Infantry Division, representatives from the PNP in Region 6 (Western Visayas), Region 7 (Eastern Visayas), and Region 18 (Negros Island), government agencies, and some stakeholders.

The Basic Computer Training - Batch 8 (BCT-B8) held late last week its culmination and induction at the Bacolod City Public Library, Araneta-Hernaez Sts. in this city.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and Executive Assistant (EA) Moises de la Cruz of the Office of the Mayor graced the event.

The Vice Mayor was the principal guest speaker while EA de la Cruz conferred the diploma of graduation to the graduates.

Cabug National High School (CNHS), an extension of Sum-ag National High School, located at Brgy Cabug, Bacolod City, was declared by the Division of Bacolod City as champion in the recent 2nd Division Mathlympics 2017, held at Rizal Elem. School.

CNHS won in the Sudoku category represented by Trisha Mae Pabalate, Grade 10 Perseverance, whose coach is Crisanta Duenas.

Another catergory that CNHS won was Kakuro, represented by Joseph Masilam, Grade 8 Courage, whose coach was Kristine Relota.

Class ’85 opened the new season with a high note as it lead the 2017 NOHS @ 115 - NOHSAAI “Unity Cup” Bowling Fellowship bracketing identification after the opening games at Negros Super Lanes recently.

Anchored by powerhouse duckpinner Iran Pielago, they recorded the highest triple of the night with 1,519 pin falls hitting a three-game score of 509-506-504.

Running second C’90 got 1,509 pfs, while C’73 is at third with 1,447 pfs followed by C’65 with 1,432 and C’82 with 1,427.

The 2nd Negros Island Region (NIR) Athletic Association Meet will commence February 24 until March 1, 2017 at the Mariano Perdices Sport Stadium in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

A 2-day training of coaches and officiating officials had been conducted last February 10 to 12 in Dumaguete.

Arriving of athletes will be on Feb. 23 while meeting of delegation officials and division sports coordinators will be held at 10AM on same day.

On Feb. 24, there will be the opening ceremony at 5PM preceded by parade at 4PM.

Two persons died while one was injured in separate road mishaps in Hinigaran, Moises Padilla and Sipalay City Saturday, February 11.

The victims were identified as Bryan Billones, 30 of Barangay Pilar, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental and JR Camelo, 27 of Hacienda Rodriguez, Barangay Camang-Camang in Isabela town.

Injured were Marjun Paniergo, 21; Marivic Mato, 25 and Rey Nangan, 32, all from Hinigaran, Negros Occidental; and Michael Suico, 35, of Barangay San Jose in Sipalay city.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia issued Executive Order No. 4, series of 2017 creating the Task Force on Operation ‘Panghawan’ (clearing), headed by Executive Assistant and Senior Superintendent (Ret.) Celestino Guara Jr. as chairman.

Guara said the task force is tasked to clear the streets year-round, but they will first focus on removing illegal obstructions in major roads that will be used during the ASEAN Summit meetings in March.

In his EO, Leonardia said there is a need to smoothen the flow of traffic on the roadways of Bacolod by removing illegal obstructions.

A fireman of San Carlos City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) was killed after he was electrocuted while responding to a fire call at Villarante Subdivision, Barangay 1, in the said City past 10:00 a.m. yesterday (Monday).

San Carlos City BFP received the fire call at 10:29 a.m., that gutted down 12 houses in the said subdivision.

The victim was identified as Fire Senior Officer 3 Ricardo Catalan of San Carlos City.

Fire Senior Superintendent Fred Trajeras, Negros Island Region Fire Marshall confirmed the incident.
