A barangay kagawad of Barangay Kumaliskis in Don Salvador Benedicto town was shot and wounded by two riding-in-tandem at Purok Luhod-Luhod in Barangay Mandalagan here around 7:30 in the evening Friday.

Police Senior Inspector Larry Teovisio, Police Station 3 chief identified the victim as Lorenzo Purisima, 47 who was sitting on a chair while tending his banana in the stall at the area.

The suspects were riding a black Honda XRM who immediately escaped from the crime scene.

A 26 year old person shot himself in the head while at their vehicle loaded with farm products in one of the barangays in Murcia town Thursday morning.

Police Senior Inspector Hector Balbon, Murcia PNP chief said the victim which he refused to identify, shot himself while at front seat of their vehicle to go to Bacolod.

Family problem was the initial motive found by police investigators.

Also last Thursday, a 28-year-old person attempted to end his life by slashing his throat with a “labaha” (razor) in Barangay 1 at Manapla town around 6:00 p.m.

A Negros- based environment group questioned the act of the Sangguniang Bayan of Hinobaan town here of converting about 300 hectares of agricultural land into industrial land.

Green Alert Negros (GAN) coordinator Randy James Rojo called the act of members of the town council as “prejudicial to the rights of people.”

Rojo said the passage of the conversion ordinance was “done in haste and without consultation with affected residents.”

Depressed by the death of her stepfather a few days earlier, a man stabbed to death members of his own family and some close relatives before committing suicide himself on Friday in a hinterland village of Negros Oriental, Negros Island Region (NIR).

Police Senior Superintendent Herman Biñas, provincial police director said the massacre happened in Sitio Mabigo, Barangay Lag-it, Tayasan town, Negros Oriental.

Corruption was killed in a road mishap along the alternate road of Don Mariano Lacson in Barangay Zone 15 in Talisay City, Negros Occidental Saturday morning.

Superintendent Adonis Rosales, Talisay City PNP chief identified the victim as Demetrio Abellar, legal age of PurokMatinumanon in barangay Felisa, Bacolod City.

The dreaded dengue hemorrhagic fever claimed two lives in this capital city and two more in two cities of Negros Occidental.

Dr. Grace Tan, chief of the City Health Office’s Environmental Sanitation Division said that Two boys perished in Bacolod - a 10-year-old from Barangay Sum-ag and a 5-year-old from Barangay Singcang-Airport.

On the other hand, records at the Provincial Health Office showed that two deaths were also recorded in the province - one in Escalante City and another in San Carlos City.

Tan said that late consultation was a factor in the deaths.

Effective immediately, smoking at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Taguig City and its branches nationwide, including those in training institutions, is not allowed anymore based on the new directive of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

Based on the three-page TESDA Circular Number 06 series of 2017 signed by Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong, all officials, employees, students and even visitors are not allowed to smoke in TESDA premises nationwide.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City recently approved during their regular session an ordinance that will prohibit the use or operation of motor vehicles with noisy modified mufflers.

The proposed ordinance that was approved on first reading, was authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, Chairperson of the SP Committee on Laws, Ordinances and Good Government.
