Negros Occ. Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. and Site Director, Cody Carter, of the Focus Direct Call Center Company based in Bacolod City, yesterday signed a Memorandum of Agreement for a partnership with the Negros Occ. Language and IT Center (NOLITC).

Bacolod City Cong-ressman Greg Gasataya and Partylist Rep Stephen Paduano refiled the house bill on redistricting of Bacolod City which was previously authored by former Cong Anthony Golez in July 2016 however it was unapproved. This time Cong Paduano included the present situation of the barangays in the city.

The proposed P15 to P25 daily minimum wage increase for workers in Western Visayas, including Negros Occidental has already been approved by the National Wages and Productivity Commission.

A television network in Taiwan, SET TV, will feature Bacolod City, in its show, “I-Walker”. This is a lifestyle show hosted by Liang-Cher Chen and Shih Hao Su.

They will feature the world-famous MassKara Festival, tourist attractions of five cities in the country that includes Bacolod City, where they will feature the Negrense tourism trademarks.

Chen and Su did shoot yesterday the MassKara Festival dancers at the Bacolod City Government Center.

The number of sugar farm workers is critically dropping, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., said.

Marañon said that with the economy improving, and more jobs available elsewhere with higher pay, “more and more Negrenses are no longer working in the fields.”

“Many of them are working as carpenters at numerous construction sites where salaries range from P380 to P450 a day, and the work is less difficult than working in the fields under the direct heat of the sun, the Governor added.

A Negros-based labor leader welcomed the latest Sugar Order of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) even as he said that “they still need to get a copy of the document and study its implications for the ordinary sugar farm workers.”

Winnie Sancho, convenor of the Save-Sugar Industry Movement (Save-SIM) said that new order of the regulatory body “is a result of efforts among stakeholders of the sugar industry.”

The prime suspects denied that they have a hand in the killing of their neighbour, whose body was found half-buried in Andrea Village, Barangay Zone 2, Cadiz City, at 9:00 p.m. Saturday.

Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, Cadiz City PNP chief suspect Leonard Benitez, 61, a parolee who was also accused of homicide in Bacolod City, denied that he killed Alexander Enriquez, 57, married, on Saturday night in his rented house.

He also said that his companion, Eugie Navales Comad, 28, “Alyas Cokic” had nothing to do with the killing. Cokic is his step-son, report disclosed.

Due to drunkenness, an older brother stabbed dead his younger brother in Sitio Gabok, Barangay Mala-iba in Mabinay town, Negros Oriental Sunday evening.

Police Senior Inspector Ian Paul Rafols, Mabinay PNP chief identified the victim as Jenny Abreo, 54, a farmer, married, who sustained a wound on his chest.

The suspect was his elder brother Jaime, 60, married, also a farmer and resident of the place.

Omanfil International, a POEA-licensed recruitment agency, will be hiring nurses and skilled workers to work at United Kingdom and other countries.

A 40-year-old driver of a motorcycle was killed when bumped by a cargo truck in Victorias City yesterday afternoon.

Superintendent Herman Garbosa, Victorias City PNP chief identified the victim as Reymond Untal, of Quezon Street, in the city. He sustained head and body injuries that caused his death.

The driver of the cargo truck is Pablito Eminen, 67. He surrendered to police authorities.
