Lechon sellers in this city are opposing the planned putting up of a roasting site in the vicinity of the slaughterhouse in far away Brgy. Handumanan.

They claimed during the public hearing on the proposed ordinance regulating the trade that requiring them to use the roasting facility to be put up by AVM Bernardo will entail additional logistical costs.

About 24 lechon sellers who attended the hearing display their products along Araneta Street in Barangay Singcang-Airport and are believed to be practicing backyard slaughtering and roasting.

On the heels of the halt in the the government’s anti-illegal drugs campaign, crime volume in the Negros Island Region (NIR) seems to be growing.

Chief Supt. Renato Gumban, NIR police director, said that while the crime volume figure for January may be lower the gap, compared to the same period in 2016, is getting smaller, noting that it has been very big in previous years.

“The crime volume appears to be slowly increasing,” Gumban, noted.

He said that most crimes are being perpetrated by drug users or peddlers.

Amid the ongoing audit of contractual employees at the Capitol, Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday declared “there are no ghost employees” at his office and that of the Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP).

Lacson said that they have technical assistants assigned in field work.

“I would like to believe that all employees in the SP are indeed working for their respective offices,” he said.

A member of Police Regional Office-18 in Dumaguete City was accidentally shot dead by his wife at their house at Block 18, Lot 1, No. 123 Sto. Rosario Heights, Barangay Honob, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental around 12:45 a.m..

The victim was identified as Police Officer 3 Jay Samson Jardinico, 34, married, who sustained a lone gunshot wound in his body and was rushed to Holy Child Hospital in the City where he was declared dead on arrival.

The suspect was his wife identified as Kenya Lucite Jardinico, 33, who surrendered to Dumaguete City Police Office.

A university here was rocked by a bomb threat late Tuesday afternoon after receiving a text message of a bomb inside its campus.

Senior Insp. Elmer Bonilla, Police Station 4 chief, said, classes, supposedly to be until 8:30 p.m., were suspended and students were evacuated while the bomb disposal team searched the area.

The bomb threat, which later turned out to be a hoax, was sent through a text message to Zoriada Martinez, 44, secretary of the school’s executive vice-president, Ryan Mark Molina, Bonilla said.

Six persons, including a minor, were injured after their vehicle fell along the provincial highway of Sitio Balocanag, Barangay Biak-na-Bato, La Castellana town Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Inspector Jerry Nacion, La Castellana PNP chief identified those hurt as Elsa Pelicano of Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City; Mary Grace Roderos of Barangay Tinongan, Isabela town; Antonieta Batis of Barangay San Agustin, Isabela town; Haydee and Elisa Vinson, and a minor, all of Barangay 5, Isabela town.

A tricycle driver and his passenger were killed while three others were injured when they collided against a tractor on a bridge in Sitio Omapog, Barangay Luna, Cadiz City around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, Cadiz City PNP chief identified the victims as cousins Celso Bendoria Vito, 41, driver of tricycle; and Alejandro “Ally” Vito, 50, both of Purok Masinadyahon, Barangay Cadiz Viejo, Cadiz City.

They suffered fatal injuries on their heads and bodies and died on the spot.

The Sugarbowl Tenpin Association, Inc. (STAI) is set to host the 2017 Summer Tenpin Bowling Clinic at East Bowling Center, Lopue’s East Centre, Villamonte in Bacolod City on April 24, 26, and 30.

This three-day bowling clinic aims to develop and teach aspiring bowlers the basic knowledge and skills on the lanes.

A total of 600 individuals consist of athletes, coaches and chaperones compose the delegation of DepEd-Negros Occidental to the second regional athletic meet tagged as Palarong NIR 2017.

The sports meet, scheduled from February 24 to March 1, 2017, is hosted by the Schools Divisions of Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental in partnership with their respective Local Governments.
