An estimated crowd of 6,000 Bacolodnons have joined the unification rally at the Bacolod government center over the weekend.

Undersecretary Jesus “JV” Hinlo Jr. of the Department of the Interior and Local Government said the two-hour rally, organized by Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte himself as National Executive Coordinating Council-Negros Island Region (MRRD-NECC-NIR), intended to show support to the Duerte administration and, at the same time, appeal for the retention of the Region 18 or the Negros Island Region.

Isabela town is poised to be the pilot area for the bamboo industry in the province of Negros Occidental because of its huge potential.

Philippine Bamboo Foundation President Ed Manda said that in Isabela town, “the potential is so big that we could start an industry.”

Manda is the lead trainor in the two-day Skills Training on Engineered Bamboo Production under the DTI-BUB Project in cooperation with the local government of Isabela led by Mayor Enrique Montilla, held at the Liga Hall on Feb. 23-24, 2017.

The House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) has set a March 7 schedule for the preliminary conference on the election protest filed by former vice mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson against Bacolod City Representative Greg Gasataya.

The notice, sent to both parties, said that the hearing will be conducted at 10 a.m. at the hearing room of the Electoral Tribunal Building in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia has requested Education Secretary Leonor Briones to open a high school at Progreso Village, formerly known as the Vista Alegre-Granada Relocation Site, for relocated families.

He said this will spare relocatees-residents from the inconvenience and expenses of sending their children to a public high school, the only one of which is about six kilometers away.

Transport groups in Bacolod claimed success yesterday as their transport strike managed to cripple 98 percent of the city’s public transportation.

Diego Malacad, secretary general of the United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (UNDOC) said that the transport stoppage was peaceful.

While the the spray paint campaign on houses of drug peddlers were effective during the time of Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, an official of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) expressed apprehension over the new anti-illegal drugs strategy of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

David Bermudo, CHR-Western Visayas chief, said that Lim’s strategy was declared by the Court of Appeals as a violation of the individual’s rights of privacy.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is urging the youth and the Negrenses to be more engaged in wildlife protection and conservation in line with the celebration of the World Wildlife Day on March 3.

Themed “Listen to the Young Voices,” the DENR Negros Island Region (NIR) will conduct a series of activities that will engage the youth and educate them of the importance of wildlife approaching the worldwide celebration on Friday.

Three persons were killed in separate road crashes in Negros Occidental Sunday and Monday morning.

The victims were identified as Roberto Amar Estaquio, 43, single, of Barangay Pinaguinpinan, Kabankalan City; Cayo Tagorda Talibo, Jr., 39, married, of Barangay Banga, Candoni town; and Naro Sobelad Templado, of legal age, resident of Sitio Manlama, Barangay Montilla, Moises Padilla.

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental - Forty medals are stake in the opening skirmishes in the 2nd Negros Island Regional Athletic Association (NIRAA) at Perdices Sports Stadium here on Friday.

Of the 40 final events, 24 of them are in the special games and 16 in the regular events.

The special games final events are boys and girls long jump Intellectually Disabled (ID) 16 and above; boys and girls shot put in Visually Impaired (VI) 15 below; VI 16 above; Hearing Impaired (HI); O.H., ID 15 below; and ID 16 above.

DUMAGUETE CITY - Bago City and San Carlos City football teams will clash in the secondary football championship in the Negros Island Region Athletic Association (NIRAA) sports meet at Silliman football ground today.

The two teams will clash for the fourth time since its provincial meet encounters in the past.

Both team deposed its respective opponents in the quarterfinals and the semifinals.

In the quarterfinals, Bago City beat Negros Occidental in a shootout with a final score of 3-2 after the match ended 1-all in regulation.

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental – Cadiz City won its respective assignments in Girls’ elementary and secondary at the start of the volleyball tournament at Foundation University Gardens before the formal opening of Negros Island Region Athletic Association (NIRAA) Meet here Friday.

Cadiz defeated their counterpart Sagay City in the 2nd district by beating with two sets score in the elementay girls and beat Escalante also in two sets in secondary girls.
