Western Visayas including Negros Occidental workers will now enjoy the P25.00 monthly wage increase as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) affirms the wage increase through the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB).

This is the result after series of public consultations and hearings conducted by the Board from September to November 2016 on the Petition for Wage Increase filed by the Philippine Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Workers’ Union (PACIWU)-TUCP in DOLE Negros Island Region (NIR) on August 30, 2016.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. turned over checks worth a total of P850,001 to the beneficiaries of the Barangay Insurance Program for Barangay Tanods and Barangay Officials and Employees, in a ceremony held at the Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City, Wednesday.

Organized by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the barangay officials from 61 barangays of Bacolod City, comprising the Barangay Anti Drug Abuse Councils (BADACs) have participated in the two-day seminar, February 27-28, on Strengthening the BADACs in partnership with the Bacolod City government.

Negros Occidental barangays declared as drug-free rose to 84 after compliance with prescribed guidelines of the Dangerous Drugs Board, Senior Supt. William Señoron, provincial police director said.

Señoron stated that four barangays of Murcia town joining the list are Iglauan, Damsite, Canlandog and Cansilayan.

Their formal declaration is scheduled today, Senior Inspector Hector Balbon, town police officer-in-charge, said.

Lilibeth Ilegay represented the families of fallen heroes who were policemen who died in action. They were honored at the 26th Foundation Day of the Philippine National Police that the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 commemorated on February 27 at Camp Delgado, PRO 6 Headquarters, Iloilo City. Guest of honor and speaker was Governor Samuel T. Gumarin, of Guimaras province.

La Castellana PNP arrested two suspects caught distributing fake money in stores at Sitio Fabrica, Barangay Cabagnaan, La Castellana town Monday morning.

Senior Inspector Jerry Nacion, La Castellana PNP chief identified the suspects as Elman Caagoy, 36, married, of Gardenville Subdivision, Barangay Tangub; and Emmalou Borja, 46, widow, of Barangay Mansilingan.

The two were distributing fake P1, 000 bills to several stores by buying something. One of the complainants was George Narciso David, 64, married, of Barangay Santol, Binalbagan town.

A father was killed while his two sons were injured when they bumped a tree in Purok Malunggay, Barangay Pacol, Bago City Sunday evening.

Police identified the victim as Pacifico Levi, Jr., 59, of Barangay Pacol. His two sons were identified as Mark 14, and Charles, 9.

The father was driving their motorcycle on the way home drunk, while his two sons were at the back, after coming from a fiesta celebration in Valladolid town.

The victim sustained head and body injuries when they hit a madre de cacao tree in the area.

A man reported missing on Sunday was discovered floating at a fishpond in Purok Trawl, Barangay Zone 1, Cadiz City on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, Cadiz City PNP OIC chief identified the victim as Marcelino Ramirez, 56, resident of Purok Masinadyahon, Barangay Zone 1.

He was discovered by his daughter Juanita after a search on Tuesday.

The victim was believed to be drunk and was on his way home. Police disclosed there was no foul play on his death.

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Lacson installed the officers and inducted the members of the Provincial Council for Women (PCW) in Silay City March 1 during the Provincial Women's Day celebration and opening of the 2017 National Women's Month which has the theme of , "We Make CHANGE Work for Women".

The newly installed officers were headed by Atty. Andrea Lizares-Si, re-elected chair of PCW.
