Japanese economic relations continue to expand as the Philippines successfully confirms PhP 27.2 billion-worth of business engagement commitments, following the three-day visit of the country’s top officials to Japan recently (28 February to 2 March).

An Ordinance Prohibiting the Sale of Cigaretters, Intoxicating Liquor or Beverages, and Volatile Substance to Minors and the Sale , Use or Possession thereof by Minors authored by Vice-Mayor Dr. Rex. R Jalando-on and co-authored by SPM Amalia D. Aguirre - Chair, Committee on Health, Sanitation and Cemetery was unanimously approved by members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of La Carlota City after a thorough debate and discussion on their regular session recently.

Negros Occidental officials are up in arms over the new tirades of Budget Sec. Benjamin Diokno against the Negros Island Region (NIR).

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., in a statement released to local media yesterday said that Diokno’s comment’s “was an opinion.”

A 24-year-old salesgirl ended her life by committing suicide and was found around 7:30 in the evening Thursday in her room at Purok Aton Sampaguita Baybay in Barangay Zone 4, Cadiz City.

Police Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, Cadiz City PNP chief identified the victim as Riza Ibañez of the said place. She was a sales girl at a hardware store in Cadiz City.

Initial investigation disclosed that she ended her life after his boyfriend, a certain “Peter” of Iloilo City broke up with her for unknown reason.

Sugar planters here expressed alarm over the continuing drop in sugar prices in the domestic market which they continue to blame on the importation of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) imported by beverage firms from China and Korea.

The son of a former mayor of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental was arrested in the town Friday afternoon.

The arrest was made by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office and Pontevedra PNP

Atty. Roslyn Borja, NIR Regional PDEA head identified the suspect as Aleguer Parroco, legal age of the said town.

He is the son of former Pontevedra vice Mayor Larry Parroco, now working at the Mayor’s office.

PDEA and Pontevedra PNP authorities recovered 2.5 grams of suspected shabu for P2, 000 marked money.

The house of Judge Roderick Maxino of the Regional Trial Court, Branch- 33 in Dumaguete City was lobbed with grenade and strafed with firearm around 3:00 in the morning Friday in his house at Tindalo Street in Barangay Daro, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

Immediately, the Dumaguete City Police Office responded sending its Explosive Ordnance Division, K-9 SWAT and Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO).

Judge Maxino is still on quandary as to the motive of the incident saying he is handling cases like illegal drugs and many others.

Two minors drowned in the river of Purok Urban at Barangay Lopez Jaena, Murcia in Negros Occidental Friday afternoon.

Police Inspector Roger Ong, Murcia PNP Deputy Chief identified the victims as Hernsel Heridera, 24 of Barangay Sta. Cruz and Joebert Francisco, 15, of Barangay Salvacion-all in Murcia town.

The two went swimming in the river with nine other friends and relatives when they were caught by strong current from the hinterland.

A woman was arrested in a stake out operation led by Barangay Intelligence Bureau in Barangay Crossing Magallon, Moises Padilla town Friday.

Senior Inspector Allan Reloj, Moises Padilla PNP chief identified the suspect as Ester Salazar Maquiling, 50 of Burgos Street, La Carlota City.

The operation was also witnessed by Moises Padilla Mayor Magdaleno Peña, who is also a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) consultant.

A 27 year-old man was found dead in his room after being electrocuted in Purok Anho at Barangay Banilad, Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental Friday.

Police identified the victim as Miguel Gordoncillo, 27 of Barangay Pakwan in Jimalalud, Negros Oriental.

He sustained burns on his body as a result of the explosion of a cellular phone he was charging together with some of his gadgets.

He was rushed to a hospital in Dumaguete City but was declared dead-on-arrival.*(CMG)

A father was stabbed dead by his own son over a misunderstanding regarding the paddle they used in their banca at Purok Esmeralda, Barangay Poblacion in Bago City Friday evening.

Police Superintendent David Cachumbo, Jr., Bago City PNP chief identified the victim as Herminio Sipawan, 54, married of the said place.

The suspect was identified as Adrian Sipawan, 34, married. He escaped after the incident but was arrested Saturday morning about 1:00 a.m.

After the 4th night, C’85 anchored by Iran Pielago toppled a respectable aggregate points of 1,436 pin falls including a three-game score of 462-474-500.

C’90 with powerhouse duckpinner Mike Corral reclaimed the 2nd spot knocking down 1,437 pfs; while ’66 led by Edgar Baldonado fell at 3rd had an off night with 1,368 pfs.

“Incentives awaits the winners of Negros Occidental in the just-ended 2017 NIRAA held in Dumaguete City on February 24 to March 1.”

Negros Occidental Provincial Sports head Romeo Sison said this in an interview after the games ended.

He said the province is sitting aside Php400,000 for the incentive, adding that he will see to it if there are remaining amounts from the P300,000 contingency funds and will use as additional incentives for the athletes.

The District Election Committee of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO) declared failure of election for Districts 4 (Bacolod East) and District 5 (Bacolod West), after the two candidates were disqualified by the screening committee. Hence there were no qualified candidates for the seats of directors in the two districts. Instead, the election for the said districts was rescheduled on March 26, 2017 to April 1, 2017, as proposed by Roel Venus, Chief, Consumer Services Division. The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer of Negros Occidental wants civil society and environment groups in the province to help him go after and prosecute owners of illegal structures inside the Northern Negros Natural Park.

Andres Untal told a media outlet yesterday that as concurrent park superintendent of the NNNP he wants “to join hands with these groups to form the multi- sectoral enforcement task force without any clearance from the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB).

A motorcycle rider was pinned to death in an uphill climb at Barangay Rizal in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental Friday.

Superintendent Arturo Fullero, San Carlos City PNP chief identified the victim as Jerwin Dumancas Alforte, 18 of Sitio Nagutman, Barangay Prosperidad in San Carlos City. He sustained injuries on his head and body and was rushed to San Carlos City Hospital but was declared dead on-arrival.

After the rape and hold- up of a call center agent on Wednesday, Bacolod City acting police director Supt. Jack Wanky will review the deployment of policemen in the city.

Wanky said there is also a need to review the regulation on tricycles plying the city streets especially during the wee hours of the night.

He also appealed to the riding public to be wary of riding in tandem motorcycles and will increase visibility during night time until the wee hours of the morning to deter crimes.

Ten policemen assigned at Police Station 2 and Police Station 10 were relieved from their present post after they were caught sleeping on the job during their duty Friday night. Police Station head, Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias said three of his men were recommended for relief after he found them sleeping during their duties.

The Bacolod City delegation ranked No. 1 among 16 city school divisions with 156 gold, 94 silver, and 77 bronze for a total of 327 medals to claim the overall championship title in the recently-concluded 2017 Palarong NIR in Dumaguete City.

For the para games, Bacolod collected 17 golds, 14 silvers and 14 bronze medals; while it finished with 3 golds, 2 silvers and pair of bronze medals in the demo sports.
