The police in this city is planning to implement “Night Watch” to better secure business process outsourcing (BPO) workers, said Sr. Supt. Jack Wanky, city police chief.

This comes after the reported rape and robbery of a call center agent in Barangay Mansilingan last week.

Wanky said that this would involve enhanced police patrol operations in all business districts, especially BPO centers.

He cited the need to intensify this, pointing out that the crimes were perpetrated by suspects on board a passenger motorcycle.

An Olive Ridley sea turtle, commonly known as pawikan, was accidentally trapped in the municipal waters of Manapla, Negros Occidental and was recently released back to its marine habitat.

Dalayapan Agrarian Reform Cooperative in Cadiz City got Community-Managed Potable Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (CPWASH) projects from the Department of Agrarian Reform-North.

The project is on a counter-parting scheme with the local government of Cadiz City to provide agrarian reform beneficiaries have access to water sanitation facilities and to help combat climate change.

The Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) approved the Peace and Order and Public Safety (POPS) Plan during a Joint Meeting held at Nature’s Village Resort in Bacolod City, Tuesday, presided by the councils’ vice chairman, Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson.

Clearing of esteros and streets from illegal structures, is rigidly implemented, according to Executive Asst Celestino Guarra, retired police colonel. He said, the Task Force Panghawan is comprised by the City Engineer’s Office, City Legal Office, Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, Bacolod City Police Office, Public Information Office, Bacolod Housing Authority, and the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Each member agency has its corresponding responsibility in the implementation of clearing operation, according to Guarra.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Yamaha Motor Philippines, Incorporated (YMPH) have joined forces to build a Motorcycle Training Center which aims to teach women and out-of-school youths on motorcycle and small engine servicing.

This after TESDA Director General Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong and YMPH President Toru Osugi signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the creation of the Motorcycle Training Center at TESDA Women’s Center in Taguig City.

Ceres-Negros Football Club blanked Tampines Rovers FC of Singapore, 5-nil, in its group stage match of the 2017 AFC Cup at Panaad Park and Stadium, Mansilingan in Bacolod City last night.

Bienvenido Maranon was named Man of the Hour after nailing 2 goals in regulation but it was Iain Ramsay’s 1st minute goal that started the scoring barrage of his teammates in the 1st half.

Maranon nailed his 1st goal in the the 24th minute followed by Manuel Ott in the 38th minute.

Alleged members of Special Partisan Unit (SPARU) of the New People’s Army (NPA) shot dead a farmer in Sitio Haroy, Barangay Montilla in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental around 6:15 p.m. Monday.

Senior Inspector Allan Reloj, Moises Padilla PNP chief identified the victim as Ronnie Mamella, of legal age, resident of the place.

He sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and died on the spot from yet undetermined caliber of firearm. The suspects immediately fled from the area.

Six persons, including four women, were arrested in separate buy bust operations in Bacolod City Monday.

The suspects are live-in partners Rodnie Lanada, 34 and Janet Candelario, 48, of Purok Cabugwason, Barangay Mansilingan; Richard Tutop, 28, of Cereza North, Barangay 3; Caroline Danal, 35, of Purok Cereza 2, Barangay 27; Crystalline Limbaga, 32, of Purok Neptune, Barangay Singcang-Airport and Mary Rose Sanchez, 25, of Purok San Roque, Barangay Handumanan.

A native of Calatrava town was killed by his own gun in Sitio Kayawkaw, Barangay Suba of the town Monday.

Chief Inspector John Joel Batusbatusan, Calatrava PNP chief identified the victim as Chito Saligan, 44, resident of the place.

He was walking with his wife in an uphill climb when his improvised 12-gauge shotgun fell and went off hitting his head.

He was rushed to Calatrava District Hospital in the town proper but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The families of victims of extra-judicial killings (EJKs) in Escalante City, Negros Occidental expressed optimism that a judge hearing the remaining murder case they filed against Representative Melecio “Beboy” Yap (1st District, Negros Occdiental) will implement a fair and speedy trial.

“We trust her (Judge Katherine Go) fairness, yet we remain ever vigilant in search for justice,” they said in a statement sent to the media by their legal counsel, Luke Espiritu.

Contrary to claims made by a critic that animals in its upkeep have been dying at the provincial government-owned Negros First Ranch in Murcia town, the farm manager said that it is now taking care of 459 sheeps and 226 cows.

Regen Besa, farm manager of the 155-hectare property in Hacienda Ilimnan, Brgy. Santa Rosa, said that of the 459 sheeps, 166 are breeders, 41 pregnant, 59 are lactating, 11 are senior rams, 55 are junior rams, 76 are growers and 51 are lambs.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines Service Aptitude Test (AFPSAT) will be conducted in Iloilo City and Bacolod City by the Army Recruitment Mobile Team for interested applicants for Officer preparatory Course, Officer Candidate Course and Candidate Soldier Course.

For Iloilo applicants, the test will be conducted at Iloilo Science and Technology, Iloilo City on March 10-11, 2017. While those in Negros Island, the test will be conducted at the Negros Occidental High School on March 13, 2017.
