The decision to dismiss the murder charges against Negros Occidental Rep. Melecio Yap (1st district) was “fair”, his lawyer insisted yesterday.

Lawyer Ariel Malunes in a press conference said that Judge Danilo Amisola “is not forced to follow the earlier findings of the Ombudsman” which found Yap and six others guilty for murder and one frustrated murder case.

Malunes said Amisola did not find any probable cause pointing to Yap as the mastermind of the alleged “extra-judicial killing” during his term as mayor of Escalante City.

Leaders of the sugar industry in the province is supporting the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) in a case filed against it by beverage giant Coca-Cola-FEMSA.

Francis de la Rama, president of the Confederation of Sugar Producers Association (CONFED) said that his group and the Sugar Alliance are fully supportive of SRA and this administration and “we will do everything we can to continue protecting this industry at all cost.”

A retired family driver shot himself dead inside their house in Hacienda Sta. Maria-Santol in Barangay Zone 15, Talisay City about 9:00 P.M. Wednesday.

Police Superintendent Adonis Rosales, Talisay City PNP chief identified the victim as John Montejo Vergara, 67 years old. He sustained a gunshot wound on the head from a 12-gauge shotgun.

His wife Jocelyn, 62, heard the gunshot from her room and rushed to see her husband lying on the floor of the dining area. She rushed him to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Although he voted Yes for the re-imposition of death penalty bill in Congress, Bacolod Congressman Greg Gasataya denied the rumor about pressure on them to vote Yes.

He said in a radio interview yesterday, that he has not heard from anyone pressuring him to vote yes in approving the death penalty bill, that gained support of the majority in congress.

As a matter of fact, Gasataya said, he has addendum or condition in his approval, that the suspect is a consistent offender or repeatedly committing the crime in the locality.

A woman driving her motorcycle was hospitalized along with two others in another motorcycle when they bumped each other along the national highway in Hacienda Tinihaban, Barangay San Jose, EB Magalona town around 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.

She died, however, around 11:00 p.m. on the same day at Teresita Jalandoni Memorial Provincial Hospital in Silay City. Her live-in partner Joel Ibañez Hechanova, 48, informed EB Magalona PNP only the next morning about 8:00 a.m., Wednesday, that she died.

The Task Force Crusaders (TFC) has brought the case of the death of a seven-year-old child in Kabankalan City to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

Nancy Pajarillo has asked TFC to help her in seeking justice for the death of her daughter because of alleged negligence of medical personnel of the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital.

Pajarillo claimed that she brought her daughter to KDH, where the child was confined for two days and declared dead on December 30, while en route to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City.

Supt. Cynthia Dimavivas, superintendent of Bacolod City Division, Department of Education, has recommended for disciplinary action and professional help to DepEd Regional Office in the Negros Island Region (NIR), against the teacher who reportedly ordered her students to beat up their classmate.

The victim is a 9-year-old female student, who continues attending her classes but with another section to separate her from the group that had beaten her, Demavivas said.

A businessman was raided by joint elements of police authorities and confiscated cache of firearms and bullets in his house in Menchaca Street, Barangay Look, Calatrava town in Negros Occidental around 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Joint operatives from the Regional Special Operation Task Group (RSOTG)-18 led by Police Inspector Joey Mara under supervision of Superintendent Robert Lingbawan, chief of RSOTG-18 Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-18 and Calatrava PNP led by Chief Inspector John Joel Batusbatusan arrested Malvin Omega Rabaya, 47, resident of the place.

A 57-year-old man was stoned to death by a drinking mate in Purok Nabali-an, Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City around 9:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Police Station 6 head, Chief Inspector Jovil Sedel identified the victim as Manuel Datoon, 57, resident of the place. He sustained wounds on his head and body.

Police also identified the suspect as Camilo Aboy, 29, single, also of the place. He also sustained a wound on his arm when he parried the hacking.

Two persons were killed including a minor, while three others were injured when they were rammed by a speeding passenger jeep in the National Highway in Purok 3, Barangay Man-uling, Cauayan town in Negros Occidental around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police Chief Inspector Ruben Pajarito, Cauayan PNP chief identified the victims as Christine Jade Gayoso Garcenila, 9, of Barangay Goce, Ilog, Negros Occidental and Emmanuel Matula Sabo, 40, of Purok 3, Barangay Man-uling, Cauayan.
